Listening to music for hours a day has its own benefits. If you listen to positive music, it will have an effect on your mindset and mood. If you listen to classical, it can help you to be more productive and get work done at a faster rate. However, listening to it super loud can actually damage your hearing. If you’re the kind of person who likes their music up loud, then you should probably consider turning down the volume. This goes for those who wear earphones, headphones, and listen to it out loud. They can all damage your hearing if they are too loud. Make sure you have the music at a reasonable level, and take a break every so often if you can.

Wear Ear Protection

If you work in a loud environment, make sure you wear ear protection. Drills and other kinds of machinery can be very damaging to the ears. This isn’t the only time you should wear ear protection. If you’re going to a gig, then wearing protection is a good idea. You don’t need to wear huge ear muffs, but sticking a few plugs in your ears should stop your drums from getting damaged. Gigs are amazing and lots of fun, but they can seriously damage your hearing over time.

Take A Break

If you’re in a loud bar, at a gig, or somewhere else that has loud noises, make sure you take a break. Go outside for a few minutes every so often. If you go to a gig, on a night out, or somewhere else where you’ve been exposed to loud noises for a long time, studies show your ears need 16 hours rest to recover. Make sure you give them as long as you can to recover before doing it all over again. If you don’t heed this advice, you might find yourself looking for hearing aids faster than you’d like.

Don’t Use Cotton Buds To Clean Your Ears

Using cotton buds to clean your ears might feel satisfying at the time, but you can damage your eardrums. That’s going to be super painful, and who knows the long term damage you could do? Your ears clean themselves. If you have a build up of wax, go to see a professional.

Get Some Exercise

Exercise is great for all aspects of the body, including the ears! Do something you enjoy at least 3 times a week and you should help your hearing to stay strong. It can also help you to manage your stress levels, which have been proven to contribute to ear health. If you’re an anxious person, you might find yourself suffering from long or short term tinnitus.
