Epicurean State Shape Cutting Board Review and Giveaway

Love it? Pls Share it!

Add Quality and a Bit of Quirkiness to Your Kitchen with an Epicurean State Shape Cutting Board!

I love messing around in the kitchen and seeing what I can come up with, and I also love all sorts of kitchen tools, gadgets and gizmos. I am always on the lookout for the best products to use for food preparation and cooking, and it is always a bonus when I find products that are not only high quality, but look good too. So when offered the opportunity to review a unique cutting board by Epicurean, I couldn’t wait to try it out!

Epicurean is known for using innovative materials to make their top-quality products for the kitchen. One of their most popular items, cutting boards, was actually born out of excess skate park materials. How, you ask? In 2003, Epicurean was founded by custom skate park manufacturer True Ride® as a way to re-purpose excess skating surface material that was generated during manufacturing. That excess material was used to make the cutting boards, creating a unique, long-lasting and eco-friendly product. When you think about the abuse an outdoor skate park takes from both the weather and the skaters, you know that your Epicurean cutting board is able to take whatever you can dish out!Epicurean-State-Shape-Cutting-Board1

One of Epicurean’s best-selling and most creative boards is their State Shape Cutting Boards. They make one for every state in the country except for Hawaii (I can see how it might be hard to make a cutting board shaped like Hawaii, but hopefully they will come out with one soon)!

These cutting boards are made right here in the USA from layers of non-porous wood fibers compressed with a food-safe resin. The boards are NSF certified, and their non-porous surface makes them easy to clean and prevents them from harboring bacteria. You don’t have to mess with any bleaches or other harsh chemicals, nor do you have to treat them with oil. In fact, unlike other cutting boards, these are dishwasher-safe!

Their unique material also makes them knife-friendly and heat-resistant up to 350°, meaning you can even use your cutting board as a trivet without leaving any burn marks.

When I first received my Alabama State Shape cutting board, I was surprised by its thinness and its light weight. The surface looks nothing like any cutting board I have ever used, and it has a very interesting feel to it. I love that there is a hole for hanging the board in the upper corner, and the shape looks exactly like my home state.

I have used mine several times since it arrived, and it still looks brand new. When reading on the Epicurean site about how to care for my new cutting board, I noticed that although the boards are stain-resistant, you need to be careful with highly alkaline products or foods. You don’t want to leave them on the board for a prolonged amount of time or they may leave marks (as they would with any cutting board). This includes things like liver, papayas and red beets.

So far I have not had any problems, and I have sliced everything from steak to red onion.

The only things I wish Epicurean would have done differently was to put something on the backside to keep it from sliding around on the counter while I slice and dice. Thankfully, this was easily resolved by purchasing some of those small, round rubber dots and sticking a few on the backside of the board. They are very inexpensive and work perfectly, holding the board securely in place. Aside from that, this cute and fun cutting board serves its purpose well and looks great doing so!

In summary, I absolutely love my State Shape cutting board, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a high-quality cutting board that will not only last for years, but adds a bit of fun to your kitchen decor, too!

The Epicurean State Shape boards make for a great conversation piece, and they are perfect for showing your state pride. They also make excellent souvenirs and gifts! To order your Epicurean State Shape cutting board, simply visit the Epicurean website. Each board costs around $25 to $30 and is built to last.

UPDATE 2023: Unfortunately, Epicurean no longer makes their state-shaped cutting boards. However, several other brands do and you can find them on Amazon.
