Back to School Guide

With school comes germs and with germs comes colds!  Yep, it’s Back to School time which means it is also flu and cold time!  And what causes those colds? Microbes…those tiny little organisms that cannot be seen without a microscope and are everywhere on Earth:  in the air, the water, rocks and soil, in plants, animals and yes, even in us humans!   While some are essential to life, others are the cause of illness such as the dreaded common cold.  And since it is cold time, when GIANTmicrobes offered me the opportunity to review a few of their products, I figured what could be more fitting than the Common Cold!

GIANTmicrobes

GIANTmicrobes are exactly what the name implies: plush toys designed to resemble the way microbes look when magnified many times under the microscope! They have an entire line of unique and unusual gifts for adults and children alike. Who wouldn’t love getting a giant microbe of their choice whether for a gag gift, a child’s gift or even an educational toy? They have a great selection of microbes, and many forms from which to choose including soft and snuggly plush toys, Petri Dish sets, Panoramas which feature microbes in their natural environment, Vinyl collectibles and more.

GIANTmicrobes Rhinovirus, The Common Cold Perti Dish

You may remember my last GIANTmicrobes review, where I shared the cute and cuddly Waterbear, this time I choose to review the most fitting microbe for Back to School time, Rhinovirus, better known as the Common Cold! While there are over 250 different kinds of cold viruses, the Rhinovirus is by far the most common.  And did you know that there are over 100 different varieties of Rhinovirus?

The common cold is a nasty thing and I can honestly say, the only Rhinovirus I was happy to have is the one I got from GIANTmicrobes.  Instead of opting for one of the large plush dolls, I choose the Common Cold Petri Dish set. This is an enlarged version of the Petri Dishes used in labs to study microbes under the microscope.  Inside the plastic Petri Dish are three adorable, miniature plush Common Cold GIANTmicrobes, and in the bottom of the Petri Dish is a fact sheet which shares some interesting facts about the Rhinovirus. This is one cold my friends and family would love to get!

GIANTmicrobes4

Just in time for Back to School, this fun soap dispenser is designed to resemble the Common Cold Virus, only magnified 1,000,000 times!  It can hold up to 17 ounces of liquid soap, and is perfect for the classroom, work or home!

Looks awesome. This would be great for kids, to let them learn on things like these. Since they can't use microscopes yet. This would be the best way to relate to them. Nice post.

The soap dispenser is adorable, but I'm afraid my kids would think it was a toy!

LOL! These are so cute and funny. (Maybe I only find them hilarious because of the pregnancy hormones . . . I don't know.) But, oh that soap dispenser leave me in stitches. When we have a separate kids bathroom I'll have to look for one! :-)
