Bowflex, made by Nautilus, has long been the top name when it comes to home gym equipment.  The brand is well-known for making exercise equipment that allows the user to get the full gym experience at home, performing dozens of exercises in short amounts of time.  That, along with the fact that much of their equipment is portable and small enough to fit in a spare room, has made them a favorite with those who do not like going to a public gym.

As with much of their equipment, the key lies in the use of resistance as opposed to weights to tone, firm and build the muscles. The Bowflex UpperCut is no different.  It’s unique ARC design and four resistance bands provide the user with over 30 different variations of presses, pikes, flys and dives.  These exercises all target the arms, shoulders, chest and abs, resulting in the perfect upper body workout.  The unique design also allows you to have perfect form and enables you to do moves that would otherwise be impossible.  For example, in addition to a classic push up (press),  the UpperCut provides you with the balance and support you need to be able to do an alternating bird dog push up where one arm and one leg is extended outwards! Basically, the UpperCut allows you to target more muscles than you would without it, and it also gives support to your body while you do the exercises enabling you to do more reps and more variations.  According to Bowflex, it is proven to activate up to 30% more muscle and enable four times more reps than doing these exercises alone.

The UpperCut not only packs a powerful workout, but it is compact and easy to set up which makes it perfect for those without a lot of room.  It was also surprisingly light when I went to set it up for my husband to use.  It’s four resistance bands can easily be adjusted to provide 3 different levels of resistance,  so as your strength increases, you can increase the amount of resistance in your moves.

Although it is best to use it on a non-carpeted floor, we still find it works well on the thin carpet that is in our rental apartment.  My husband uses it daily and is both surprised and impressed with just how good of a workout the UpperCut provides!  He finds it easiest and most effective to follow along with the videos shown on the UpperCut Workout Site.  After two weeks, he is already starting to feel better and get back into shape!

The times I have used it I can definitely feel it through out my entire upper body!  At first I didn’t think I would be able to perform even half of the exercises on the poster, and I felt a bit awkward and off-balance.  However, once I got used to using it, I found that the UpperCut actually makes the exercises easier as far as balance and form is concerned because it is providing that support.  But don’t think you won’t be getting a thorough workout, because you will, and you will definitely feel it!
