More Than A Dream: Why You Should Buy Your Daughter a Horse

If you’ve got a daughter, I’m sure that by now she’s asked you whether she can have a horse. And who can blame her? Horses are amazing! Yet, let’s be honest up front. There is a lot of planning that goes into owning a horse. First off there’s the money you need to set aside for the horse itself. Then you have to consider the timber stables, the food, and the vet bills associated with owning such a large animal. But although there might be challenges to owning a horse, just as there are with any animal, horses can bring enormous benefits. So what are they? Here are five great reasons why you should buy your daughter a horse.

It’ll Keep Her Fit

Right now we’re in the midst of a fitness crisis in the US. Young girls are going through school and college without developing an interest in any kind of physical activity. It’s bad for their bodies and it’s bad for their minds. The trick is to get girls genuinely interested in things that involve physical activity. And what better way to get them interested in activity than owning a horse.

Riding a horse isn’t a passive activity. It’s active and forces you to involve a whole range of muscles. A day’s training requires a lot of hard work and muscular exertion. Then there’s all the extra work, like cleaning out the stables that will help to improve her strength and energy levels. So if you think that your daughter spends far too much time sitting in front of the TV not doing anything, perhaps a horse is the remedy.

It’ll Keep Her Humble

Another reason why you should buy your daughter a horse, is because it’ll help keep her humble. Humility is something that is sadly lacking among many young people today. But that’s often because they haven’t been exposed to their own weaknesses and limitations. Horse riding is difficult. And your daughter will soon discover that she doesn’t have total control over the animal.

This promotes an attitude of curiosity and learning. She’ll learn that she’s never done learning, and there’s always ways that she can improve.

She’ll Meet New Friends

Often social circles can become quite narrow and insular. And this is a particular problem for young girls who hang out in the same social groups all the time. Having a separate group of friends away from the regular bunch is a good way to broaden her horizons. In fact, because of the shared interest in horses, the barn is an excellent way to form new, life-long friendships.

It Builds Confidence

Horse riding is an exhilarating experience. And it’s not without its dangers. But developing command over your physical environment is a surefire way to build confidence. Girls find that they develop a sense of agency when they’re able to bend a 1000 pound animal to their whim.

It Develops Responsibility

One of my personal favorite reasons why you should buy your daughter a horse is because owning a horse teaches responsibility. Owning one of these magnificent animals is a big responsibility for young girls. They have to consider the health and wellbeing of the animal at all time.

Horses require particular attention that other animals do not. Often taking the dog for a walk can be combined with other activities, like going to the park with friends. But horses require their own time to manage.

These are just a few of the reasons why you should buy your daughter a horse, there are many others out there. It is definitely worth considering!
