Recycling: Are You Doing Enough?

Recycling is a topic that almost everyone knows about. Most people do some form of it at home. But, are we all doing enough? In a word, no. Despite services such as recycling collections at home, we still throw a lot away. And that unrecycled trash ends up in landfill sites across the country!

Are you worried that you’re not doing enough? If so, these strategies can help you reduce your landfill waste:

Find out about local recycling programs

It’s likely that there are recycling centers in your area that you can use. These civic amenity sites let you recycle all kinds of materials. Once a month, you could transport a volume of items. That way, you won’t have much to throw away in the trash.

Buy recycled products

One person really can make a difference in the world! You can “do your bit” by purchasing recycled products. Doing so means you are boosting the cyclical movement of materials. Plus, you are supporting the industry and encouraging more companies to offer recycled items.

Repair rather than replace

The sad truth is that we live in a disposable society. When an item outlives its usefulness, we throw it away. Electronic goods are a prime example of that fact. Instead of buying new products, why not repair the ones you’ve got? It’ll cost you less and divert another item from landfill sites.

Repurpose your organic waste

Composting is a brilliant way to do something with organic waste materials. You can convert that waste into something useful like soil conditioner or fertilizer.

Thanks for the blog post - I tend to do my part in the recycling efforts and where items need to be recycled, I make sure they do not go into the trash but are recycled. If I can re-use them in other ways, I do that too. We have to do our part to keep our environment safe and friendly for us. Thanks for the excellent write-up Alaina!
