The Quick Guide to Choosing Glasses for Your Face

When you are buying glasses, you have to select something that will suit your face. Glasses aren’t something that you can change all the time, so you need to get it right. Some people make the mistake of choosing the wrong shape. If your glasses are too big or small, or they’re shaped wrong, it can have an unattractive effect. You don’t want them to make you look too pointy or round, or to swallow your whole. If you need help choosing which glasses to buy, have a look at this guide on choosing glasses for your face shape.

Oblong Face

An oblong face is longer than it is wide. The cheek line is usually long and strong, and sometimes you might have a long nose too. If you think you have a oblong face, you should try out some wider glasses frames. For example, many people with oblong faces choose to wear aviator glasses. These wide frames are perfect for widening your face slightly so that it’s more balanced.

Diamond Face

It’s fairly uncommon to have a diamond-shaped face, but some people do have one. You might see this face shape on some models, with high and wide cheekbones and narrow jaw and eyeline. If you have a diamond-shaped face, you can afford to be dramatic with your glasses. Choose something that draws attention to your eyes and emphasize your cheekbones.

Square Face

To balance out a square face, you should try out some oval or round frames. You’ll find plenty on lensdirect if you search by frame shape. Your aim should be to make your jaw look softer and your nose longer. You can draw attention to your eyes and away from your chin.

Round Face

With a round face, you want to avoid making it look even rounder. So don’t even think about picking up frames with round shapes. It’s best to leave oversized glasses on the shelf too. Try to go for rectangular glasses to make your face look longer and slimmer.

Triangular Face

A triangular face which is slimmer at the bottom is called a “base up” triangle. If you choose glasses that are wider at the top, you will end up emphasizing this shape. Try to look for styles that are the other way around, with frames wider at the bottom. Look for light colors too, and perhaps rimless styles.

Oval Face

There are lots of options for glasses-wearers with oval faces. Because their faces are fairly balanced, they don’t need to consider the shape of the frames too much. They can wear almost any style, although it’s better to avoid narrow frames.

Heart-Shaped Face

To balance a heart-shaped face, you should try to find frames that are heavier on the bottom. You don’t want anything too wide, such as aviators, because they will emphasize the wideness of the top half of your face.

Once you know what shape your face is, the process of choosing glasses for your face becomes much easier!
