February’s Beauty Box 5 – Review!
Can you believe that February is almost over? It seems the months are flying by! And since it is the middle of the month, those of you who read my blog know what that means: it’s time for this month’s Beauty Box Five!
Not familiar with Beauty Box Five? What they are is a monthly subscription service that delivers a sample box of all things beauty. Each box contains around 5 full-size and travel samples of a variety of makeup, skin care, fragrances and everything in between! Occasionally you will get one of the dreaded foil packets, but that seems to be pretty far and few betwee
. You will find a mixture of luxury, commonly known drug store brands, niche brands, eco-conscious and even vegan brands. Beauty Box Five is also one of the least expensive beauty subscription boxes around. If you subscribe for a year, you will pay a mere $8.25, a three-month subscription will run you $10 a month, and a month-to-month subscription costs $12.
This month actually marks Beauty Box Five’s third birthday – so the box is all about the celebration. Happy Birthday! Let’s see what came inside!
Revlon Colorstay Nail Enamel $3.99
Available in assorted colors, this super-pigmented polish provides long-lasting color and strength to your nails – with just one coat. When I first saw the color BB5 sent, Fall Mood, I was a bit hesitant as I am usually not a fan of glittery or frosty polish.
However, once I applied the color to my nails, I was surprised! That glitter-like shine turned out to be more of a warm, subtle coppery glow that I actually kind of like! One full size bottle of Revlon Colorstay Nail Enamel will cost you around $3.99 to $6.99 depending on where you purchase.
Absolute New York Absolute Love Lip Balm $5.00 0.42 oz
Another full-size product in this month’s box is a tin of Absolute New York Love Lip Balm in Strawberry. This one is a new brand to me, so I was curious to see how whether or not I would like it. The first thing I noticed when opening the tin was the super sweet strawberry smell.
Flipping it over I read the ingredients, and when I noticed that it has petrolatum in it I knew it was not something I am going to use. These type balms tend to dry my lips out more than they help. My niece, however, may really like it. You can find Absolute New York’s Absolute Love Lip Balm for $5.99 for a double pack on their website.
Avon Big Color Eye Pencil $3.49 – discontinued
The 3rd full size product BB5 sent this month I absolutely fell in love with!. The Avon Big Color Eye Pencil is a lovely champagne color and provides a great subtle highlight. It is also literally the easiest eye color I have ever applied.
Unfortunately when I looked it up to get a link, I discovered that Avon has recently discontinued the product (much to the disappointment of many of their customers, and now mine). So for those of you who got it, don’t get attached because you won’t be able to get it again unless Avon brings it back.
Also, after the mascara issue with last month’s box, this isn’t what I wanted to find out. I know other boxes will send out recently discontinued products, but I really hope BB5 is not making a habit of this as well. Please do not get me wrong, this eye pencil is fully sealed, it works great and there doesn’t appear to be anything wrong with it.
I just always want to be completely honest in my reviews, so I feel I needed to mention it.
GlamGlow Youth-Mud Tinglexfoliate Treatment $69.00 1.7 oz
Give your skin some TLC with this 10-minute mud mask that works with your body’s natural moisturizing collagen to provide gentle exfoliation and help leave skin smoother, softer and brighter.
I wish they had sent more than one packet as this mask worked wonderfully! I could actually feel it tingling as soon as I applied it, then as it dried the usual tightening feeling. Once I rinsed, my skin looked – and felt – fabulous!
A 1.7 ounce jar of the GlamGlow Youth-Mud mask will cost you, on average, around $69 online depending on the site.
Marsk Mineral Eyeshadow in Vanilla Frosting $22.31 for 0.04 oz
Since BB5 couldn’t send us a slice of their birthday cake, they did they second best thing and sent us some Vanilla Frosting – eyeshadow that is. This mineral eyeshadow is made by Marsk is an iridescent white with some serious shimmer. With its subtle sparkle it would make a great soft highlighter.
Unfortunately, the color is a bit too young for my taste, but for my teenage niece, it’s perfect! A 0.04oz container of Marsk Mineral Eyeshadow in Vanilla Frosting will run you around $22.31.
BB5 Bonus: yourMinerals Gift Card Birthday Present $20
Last but not least was a $20 gift card to yourMinerals – pretty cool! Since this is a new-to-me brand, I headed directly to their website to see what type products they carry. yourMinerals is a Swedish makeup company who according to their site focuses on all-natural make up for the active woman.
The site has a fairly good selection of eye shadow, foundation, powder, blush and even makeup brushes. I finally decided on a mineral foundation powder, and cannot wait to give it a try once it arrives.
My Verdict of the February Beauty Box Five Box
Overall I am pretty happy with this month’s box. Again, I am a bit worried about the two items I have now received that are no longer being made – more so the mascara from January as the eye pencil was just discontinued – but I am definitely willing to give it another month on a box that has been pretty darn good over the years!
I hope I am not being too harsh on BB5 as overall they have always sent some nice products. Plus, as I say every month, it is a very affordable way to try new brands and products without running the risk of wasting your money buying a full size product that you are not even sure you will like.
So, be sure to check back next month to see what Beauty box 5 has in store for us then!

I hadn't heard of this one but I do love subscription and beauty boxes! The mud mask to me looks wonderful. I've been getting into detoxing lately with a really good mud mask. I love the feeling.

This would be a fun way to try out new products. And the price isn't bad at all. Like you mentioned, I wouldn't want to find that I really loved a product and it had been discontinued so hopefully that is a fluke that isn't commonly repeated.
