Did you have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend? We sure did! A nice long weekend spent relaxing and having a good time.
On Memorial Day, we spent the entire day with family and friends. That morning, we went over to my husband’s aunt’s house. Everyone in the family was there including his sister and her husband and daughter. My husbands’ three aunts, their husbands and children. My stepson and one of his friends. My in-laws.
Early on my husband fired up the grill, and loaded it down with a variety of meats including ribs, brats, chicken and hamburgers. Inside the house, the kitchen table was loaded down with salad, pasta salads, baked beans, french fries, mac-n-cheese and more. Another table has cakes, pies, Jello…and all sorts of refreshing drinks.
Back outside the sun was fighting with the clouds to rule the sky. The temperature was already in the lower 90s. The kids pretty much spent the entire day in the pool, and even the adults would get in to cool off. The volleyball net was set up. Badmitten rackets, birdies, softballs, kickballs, bikes and Razors were lined up against the fence. There was lots of laughter and good times. We spent the day eating, swimming…
…laughing and talking…
and having fun.
But throughout the whole day, we kept one thing in mind. Memorial Day is not a day of celebration. Instead, it is a day to remember and honor those who have served and are serving. Those who have fought and those who have paid the ultimate price.
All so we can enjoy our freedom. So we can spend our day with family and friends. Talking, laughing, eating, swimming and living our lives.
Thank you to our service men and women. Thank you for all you do and have done. And God Bless you all.
Land of the free, thanks to the brave.
Happy Memorial Day 2012.
