Chinese New Year is the biggest event in Chinese world and is celebrated by a 15 day festival that ends with the Chinese Lantern Festival. This year, the 2014 Chinese New Year arrived a little bit early on January 2014. This is the year of the (Green) Horse – a symbol synonymous with P.F. Chang’s. To celebrate, P.F. Chang’s has created a new Winter Seasonal Menu that features a variety of delicious, unique dishes using traditional ingredients symbolizing good luck and prosperity.

My father introduced my sister and I to Chinese cuisine from a very young age, so I have grown up with an affinity for Chinese food. Just looking at this new menu has my mouth watering! From salads such as the Orange Ginger Beet Salad, to main dishes like the Chili Shrimp Bao and Firecracker Chicken, the new Winter Seasonal menu is full of wonderful-sounding foods! Thankfully this upcoming Saturday is date night, and I know exactly where I want to go!

Here’s what I plan on trying. First off I’d start with the new Shanghai Waldorf Salad which combines fresh chopped kale, endive, radicchio, crisp apples, grapes, celery, grape tomatoes and candied walnuts all tossed together in a light miso-lime vinaigrette I bet the dressing tastes great with all of those fresh vegetables! Then for the main course, I’d love to try the Red Wine and Pepper Braised Beef! Tender and moist marinated flank steak is wok-tossed in a red wine and black pepper sauce along with sliced potatoes, broccolini, Napa cabbage, grape tomatoes and Fresno peppers.

Of course, no meal is complete without dessert, and P.F. Chang’s has two new delectable-sounding treats to try – Chocolate Raspberry Wontons and Sweet Vanilla Cream Wontons. Both feature handmade wontons served warm and a light sprinkling of powdered sugar on top, but that is where the similarities end. The Chocolate Raspberry Wontons are filled with a rich and creamy chocolate-raspberry filling, dusted with powdered sugar, and served with chocolate and raspberry sauces, fresh raspberries and mint. The Sweet Vanilla Cream are made with vanilla cream cheese, dusted with powdered sugar, served with vanilla and raspberry sauces and fresh mint. So now the only problem is choosing just one!

Finally, be sure to try one of P.F. Chang’s two new mixed drinks, the Red Goose Martini, or my personal favorite, the Crimson Spritzer – a smooth blend of Plymouth Gin and Luxardo Cherry Liqueur with Marasca cherries, fresh lime juice and muddled Kaffir lime leaves, topped with Mumm Napa Brut. You can’t have a drink without a toast, and mine to all of you would be for you and your family to have a year filled with happiness, good health and prosperity!

I always find the Chinese New Year to be really intriguing because it is nothing like our "New Year". I started eating Chinese food late in life, but I did fall in love with it. And although I haven't branched out much, this post has actually inspired me to try something new the next time I get Chinese food.

The Sweet Vanilla Cream sounds heavenly -- my mouth is watering!
