3 Global Issues and Challenges

Love it? Pls Share it!

Although society has come a long way since the sixties in terms of women’s rights and acceptance of the LGBT community, there are still many global issues that remain in the modern-day. In the past few decades, additional problems have also arisen, such as global warming and political division.

Despite the pressing issues that are going on around the globe, many people remain oblivious or choose not to consume any media coverage of these issues. However, it’s important to raise awareness about global issues and challenges that affect every single one of us.

Here are three global issues and challenges to be aware of and learn more about.

Child Trafficking and Child Labor

Although more people are becoming aware of child trafficking and child labor, it’s still a major global issue with millions of children are victims of abuse and exploitation every year.

Trafficking rings operate in countries across the globe and vulnerable children are at risk of being manipulated by traffickers. Many manufacturers use factories with young workers who are paid far below the minimum wage and work extremely long shifts.

Many children are forced to work in unhygienic conditions performing tasks that are dangerous to their health. Even those who manage to escape from their abusers are left with emotional scars for the rest of their lives.

Water Contamination

Lack of fresh water is another of the global issues facing us today. There are billions of people in several different countries who don’t have access to fresh, clean, or hot water. Instead, they are forced to drink contaminated or polluted water that contains bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and fecal matter.

Recently, a lot of effort has been placed into improving the quality of the water supply to these countries but it is still a pressing issue. There is enough clean water to keep every person on Earth well-hydrated but distributing this water evening across the globe is difficult.

Things like conflict and poor infrastructure make the distribution of clean water impossible in some areas. Even if clean water is transported to these areas, it can get contaminated along the way.

Poor sanitation is a huge issue and it is the cause of a range of serious diseases in the residents of third-world countries. Lack of clean water exacerbates these problems and puts more people at risk of ill health.

Inequality

Issues with inequality have been around for decades. Recently, there has been a significant improvement in these global issues but there is still a long way to go. Inequality can arise in every area of life, from wealth to gender to sexuality.

Wealth inequality refers to the unequal distribution of wealth across all people of the world. Around 44% of the global net worth belongs to just 0.7% of the adult population. This is extremely uneven, and it causes a huge divide between the rich and the poor.

Luckily, we are moving in the right direction. Community, national, and international level work is being done to even out wealth distribution.

Steps are being taken to make the world a more welcoming place for people of all genders and sexualities. For example, hate crimes against certain groups of people are being punished with harsher sentences to help fight against inequality.
