Labor Day weekend is almost here and for many people, that means road trip time! When I was growing up road trips used to be a lot more hands-on than they are now. Instead of apps, we had maps. GPS? No, we used AAA. Today the connected car is making driving much easier and more enjoyable. As you prepare to hit the road for summer’s last vacation, be sure to check this list of road trip necessities.
- Cell Phone – make sure you have your cell phone so you can check in with family and friends and have it handy in case of an emergency. Plus there is all of those great apps that can help you with everything from finding the cheapest gas to taking the quickest route. Just remember, that cell phone is a distraction. Pull over when texting, and always keep your eyes on the road.
- A Phone Charger – that handy cell phone we just discussed won’t be much use without your charger! If you have it, bring one for the car and one for the hotel room.
- Roadside Assistance – you never know what can happen on the road, so why not play it safe. Make sure you have the number handy of whoever you use for roadside assistance. These services are great for everything from towing to bringing you enough gas to get to a filling station.
- A second set of keys – nothing is worse than either locking your keys in the car or losing them. Give one of your passengers a second set to hold just in case. If you don’t have a spare set, you can now easily get online key cutting services and will be delivered to your home!
