We all enjoy a good meal, but we don’t always have the time to prepare and cook it. Cooking can take just as long as eating! However, you don’t have to do both. There are plenty of companies that will ship fresh lobster right to your door, and all you have to do is heat it up! Since buying live lobsters is not cheap, you want to make sure they survive the trip.
Just the other day I asked a friend to bring me a lobster when she was in Maine. She said it would be hard and not fresh. What? Can’t lobsters be shipped fresh to my door? Well, she was right, but I found a way to get fresh lobster at Fish Me! Here’s what I did:

Understand the type of shipping
Last week when I was in New York City visiting family, I was taken to two stores that sold lobster. The first was a retailer who sells live lobster out of a truck that travels throughout the city. They were selling the live lobster for $14.00 per pound. When I asked if they would ship live lobster overnight, they explained they do not ship live but instead freeze dry it. The other store did not have live lobsters for sale but did have frozen ones that are shipped overnight anywhere in the US.
Is this important? YES! Live shipping is a sign of quality and the ability to provide the freshest product possible. The longer your lobster stays in transit, the more likely it will lose quality and possibly become no longer edible.
It’s important to check the type of shipping your lobster company uses. Most offer the choice between at least two different methods: live and frozen. While they can both get your live Maine lobsters safely to their destination, they each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Using live shipping raises safety concerns, as well as worries about quality loss, which we’ll address in a minute. Frozen shipping ensures high-quality lobsters, at least upon arrival; however, it often costs more and isn’t as environmentally friendly. To determine which option is best for you and your family or client base, it’s necessary to understand the benefits and drawbacks of each kind of shipping method.
Research the return policy
If you live near the sea where lobster is harvested, this doesn’t pertain to you. But if you live further inland and would like to taste fresh lobster meat, make sure you know the return policy before you order. Make sure that you ask the supplier for a timeline in which the meat needs to be used after purchase. If you’re tired of having to deal with certain restaurants (or grocers, etc.), you may want to try ordering fresh lobster online. While Ice Cold Lobsters does not ship their lobsters overnight, they do deliver them in two days. Ice Cold Lobsters also guarantees that your lobsters arrive alive. This means no more “tough” lobster dinners (and less time dealing with this problem).
You can find a number of different companies that offer this for very reasonable rates. Now, I’m not sure where my father is going with this one, but it is pretty easy to find fresh seafood online these days. Just do a simple search for your area and see what pops up.
