Self-care is more important than ever.

With the pandemic, our lives have been thrown off kilter, our normal schedules have been decimated, and many of our hopes, dreams and priorities have fallen by the wayside.

However, it’s important to make time for looking after yourself, as a good self-care will vastly improve your physical and mental wellbeing.

Small improvements can make a big difference – here are just five ways that you can take better care of yourself.

5 Ways to Take Better Care of Yourself including sleep
  1. Sleep Tight!

One of the most important ways to take better care of yourself is to make sure you get the sleep your body needs. Sleep should always be a priority in your life, and not just something to pass the time between one day and the next.

A good sleep schedule has been scientifically proven to improve your wellbeing, whilst not getting enough can cause serious health problems – not to mention, it can wreak havoc on your concentration.

But getting more sleep is easier said than done. Try to avoid caffeine in the evenings – your last coffee should be no later than 4-6 hours before bedtime – and invest in some thick curtains that will block out the pesky morning sun.

  • Spend Quality Time With Your Pets

Pets provide us with lots of health benefits and is one of the more enjoyable ways to take better care of yourself. Spending time with our furry friends can have many great health benefits – provided you’re not allergic!

Pets can help reduce our stress levels and lower our blood pressure. They provide us with unconditional love and are always happy to see us, giving us a much-needed serotonin boost.

Although, many cat owners will point out that while we are loved by our moggies, that love is often buried under a certain amount of contempt!

  • Visit the Dentist

Another way to take better care of yourself is to take care of your teeth. It’s vital that we take care of our teeth. After all, they are one of our most useful tools (along with opposable thumbs, of course). And they play a big part in your overall health.

Find a reliable dental practice to help keep your gnashers in tip-top condition. When your smile sparkles, you’ll see a boost to your self-confidence!

  • Eat Better

Healthy eating is one of the greatest challenges of modern life – junk is usually easier, cheaper, and more enjoyable to eat.

But a nutritious diet is a vital tool for self-care that will improve your health and wellbeing.

If you’re stuck for meal plan ideas, then try a meal service, that way you can fill your fridge with plenty of balanced meals to see you through the week.

  • Look After Your Hair and Skin

The elements can be harsh, and heat will damage both our hair and our skin. But one of the ways to take better care of yourtself is to care for your skin and hair.

Make sure to protect yourself with moisturiser and sun lotion – it’s recommended that you don’t use any product lower that SPF 30. If you can stay in the shade between 11 and 3 during those hot summer months, then even better!

And for your hair? Before you next pull out that hair dryer, use a heat protector product to keep if from suffering too much damage. Or better yet, skip the hair dryer all together. If you have the time, then let your hair dry naturally, it will leave it in a healthier condition.
