3 Ways to Beat the Summer Heat

Summer time means spending a great deal of the day outside for a lot of people. Whether you just love to exercise in the morning sun, or you plan a tropical vacation somewhere fantastic each year, the sun likely plays a major role in your daily life in the warmer months. While the sun isn’t bad for your skin in small doses, spending a lot of time under its harsh rays can be problematic. The sun isn’t just an issue for fair-skinned people, either. That’s why you need to take steps to safeguard your sun from the skin. Use this guide to help you beat the summer heat and keep your skin looking its best. After all, too much sun exposure can make you look older prematurely and lead to potential problems like melanoma if you’re not careful.

Always Wear Sunscreen

Most people know they should wear sunscreen when they’re going to the tennis courts, beach or that backyard barbecue where they’ll be outside for hours on end. Most people are not in the habit of putting on a broad spectrum sunscreen every single day in the summer though.

If you worry about sun damage however, this is exactly what you should be doing. You can skip days when you know you’ll only be outside a minute or two, but keep quality sunscreen with you just in case.

Sunscreen really can make all the difference between healthy skin and burned skin.

Avoid Mid-Day Sun

The hottest parts of the day are from 10am to 3pm, so if you can, you should avoid being outside for prolonged periods of time during those hours. If you’re on vacation though, that can be hard to do.

If you have to go out, make sure you’re wearing sunscreen, and consider an extra layer of protective clothing. Even beach wear has been designed to help protect against the sun, and making the minimal investment can be well worth the cost.

Cover Your Face

If you can’t avoid the sun, be smart about the parts that you keep covered. Your face is a valuable asset, and dealing with burns there can be pretty uncomfortable. That’s why you should always wear a hat or use a head wrap to cover your face in the summer.

Combine this basic advice with sunscreen and you’ll be made in the shade – or the sun.
