Once you have chosen a dog you love, it’s time to bring it home. Dogs can be hard work, and you need to make sure you care and look after them properly. To ensure the process runs smoothly, here are five things you must do if you own a dog!

Walk Your Dog Daily
One of the top things you must do with your dog is to take it for walks daily. Dogs need to be kept active and can become unhealthy and unhappy if you don’t take them for regular walks. Try and get into a routine where you take them first thing in the morning before work and then go for a quick walk after dinner. You will feel a lot healthier too as you will be getting regular exercise. If you don’t think you will have time to take them out for walks every day, you need to arrange for a dog walker to come and take them out at least once in the day.
Groom them Regularly
Another thing you must do if you get a dog is to ensure you groom them regularly. Every dog is different and will have specific grooming requirements. You could groom them at home to ensure their fur stays in an excellent condition or find a local groomer in the area to do it. You should make sure you bathe them regularly as well to keep them looking and feeling great.
Protect Them from Diseases
To ensure the dog stays healthy, you need to help protect them against diseases. They will need to go to the vets for checkups to make sure they are well. They will need to give them yearly injections to keep them healthy. Dogs are likely to pick up diseases like fleas or tapeworm when you take them out for a walk. So you will need to give them tablets to stop them from getting these.
Buy Some Toys
Dogs need to keep busy and active to ensure they stay healthy. Therefore, you need to ensure you have plenty of toys for them to play with. Especially if you are going to be out a lot during the day. As this article reveals, if you don’t get them appropriate toys, they will start chewing your belongings such as your shoes! Make sure you get toys which are suitable for their age and size.
Provide Your Dog With a Good Bed
You want your dog to be comfortable at night time so that they sleep and don’t wake you up! Therefore, you need to find them good bedding which will keep them feeling cozy. You should try and get one with a removable cover so that you can clean it easily if they have an accident.
Remember one of the top things you must do if you own a dog is to give it lots of cuddles!
