With the busy holiday season already upon us, I need to be at my very best. While the holidays can be a joyous time, they can also be quite stressful. With all the shopping, the attending social events, the cooking, cleaning and entertaining, it can quickly become too much to handle. One thing I have learned over the years is that in order to avoid the stress of the season, you have to take care of yourself. Here are four ways to reduce holiday stress so you can survive and thrive this holiday season.

4 Ways to Reduce Holiday Stress

Planning and Making Lists

Santa isn’t the only one making lists during the holidays. I have found that by making lists for whatever I need to do not only cuts down on the stress, it also makes my days go much smoother. Plus, it keeps me from forgetting things such as ingredients for recipes or a gift for the math teacher. it’s a quick and easy way to reduce holiday stress.

Getting Plenty of Sleep

Sleep is the absolute best, when you get it, that is. If I don’t get enough sleep I’m tired and grumpy and definitely not at my best. While 8 hours is the target, I realize that is not always possible. So I try to aim for at least 6 or 7 hours. I have also had to learn to make myself leave things as they are for tomorrow, and just go to bed.

Exercise

With all there is to do during the holiday season, it’s no surprise that exercise is often the last thing on our minds. It helps to remember though that being active can elevate your mood and help you cope with stress. Take time to find at least 30 minutes a day to get some type of exercise whether it’s going for a walk or doing some yoga. You’ll be surprised at how it helps reduce holiday stress!

Taking Care of Me

Eating right is a big part of taking care of yourself. After all, you are what you eat. That’s why I make a point to avoid a lot of sugars and caffeine, especially during the holidays. Instead I focus on proteins and vegetables.

And while a good diet plays a key role in my health, I also am a big believer in taking vitamins and supplements. In addition to taking probiotics keep my digestion healthy, I also take Nature Made® Fish Oil to help support a healthy heart, and Nature Made® Super B-complex which helps support my energy on a cellular level.
