Vegetable Oils in Baby Formula: Why HiPP Dutch Formula Stands Out from the Rest

When a parent cannot breastfeed because of health, work, or other issues, choosing infant formula becomes the only option. Whole cow and goat milk contain big molecules of animal proteins that are heavy for a newborn’s stomach. So, pediatricians do not recommend using it until a baby is at least one year old or unless it is skimmed and hydrolyzed.

As such, parents need to pay close attention to the ingredients of the chosen formula. Each serving needs to have all the required nutrients, including healthy fats and vitamins.

Did you know that there are vegetable oils in baby formula? Why do some companies add vegetable oils to baby food? What is the difference between vegetable oils and palm oil? Why does HiPP Dutch organic formula stand out from the rest? Keep reading to find out!

Why Do You Find Vegetable Oils on the List of Formula Ingredients?

A good-quality baby formula supplies a baby with all the required nutrients that are needed to help your baby grow and develop healthily. As a rule, you can find vegetable oils in baby formulas because they are a rich source of healthy fats such as Omega 3 and 6. These fatty acids stimulate proper brain development, improve eye health, and help a baby thrive.

Consequently, all baby formulas must have them. However, HiPPs Dutch Formula does not use vegetable oils to develop its baby formula.

HiPP: a Family Company with a Spotless Reputation

Joseph Hipp decided to solve nutrition problems when his wife couldn’t breastfeed after the birth of twins in 1899. First, he produced rusk flour and added it to milk to make it more nourishing. Thanks to that, he saved his five children and gave birth to the idea of baby formula creation. In 1956, he started cultivating organic vegetables, plants, and fruit to make baby foods, including weaning products, safer and healthier.

Today, HiPP is a world-known brand in the baby food industry. It gained popularity due to the high-quality ingredients in each of its baby formula, pouch, and cereals. Parents from the US, EU, and other continents trust the company’s products and order them online as an alternative to breastfeeding and non-organic formula feeding.

Now, parents can supply their babies with top-quality products without health risks, thanks to various baby formulas. Hypoallergenic, Comfort, Anti-reflux, Ready-to-feed, Dutch, and UK formulas are the most popular HiPP products.

Parents can choose between traditional cow’s milk formulas and non-traditional goat formulas. Goat milk formula tends to be gentler for vulnerable or sensitive babies and provokes fewer allergic reactions than cow milk.

German pediatricians are for an individual approach to baby feeding. That’s why HiPPs Dutch Formulas are designed for different age categories, from the first days up to 2 years, with each one containing the required amount of nutrients based on a baby’s age.

What Does HiPP Dutch Formula Use Instead of Vegetable Oil and Why?

Unlike many baby food brands, HiPP Dutch Formula doesn’t use vegetable oils as a source of macronutrients and micronutrients in baby formula. Instead, the company uses palm oil, which food manufacturers regard as harmful. But is that really so?

Palm oil is a type of vegetable oil derived from the fruit of the palm tree. Consequently, it is also natural and safe. Even better, HiPP Dutch Formula uses only organic palm oil, which provides the following benefits.

  1. Nutritional composition: Palm oil is a perfect source of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids. According to the research, it resembles those found in breast milk. Due to that, babies’ tummies can easily digest it and absorb the required nutrients.
  2. Vitamin E: Palm oil is rich in Vitamin E, which has an antioxidant effect. It protects cells from damage and is crucial for a baby’s developing immune system and overall being.
  3. Organic value: HiPP works with reliable companies that take palm tree fruit from ecologically safe regions. Its suppliers do not support deforestation and other environmentally dangerous projects. They deal with farmers raising trees and harvesting without pesticides and chemicals.
  4. Reduced contamination: Oxidation negatively affects products, especially vegetable oils. This process causes the production of harmful components that are usually toxic to the human organism. Unlike other vegetable oils, palm oil manifests a high resistance to oxidation. So the company reduces the risk of contamination during the production process. That is how HiPP ensures the freshness and quality of the formula.
  5. So why are many companies against the use of palm oil? The reason is the related deforestation and destruction of habitats of pandas and other endangered species. As it has been said, HiPP does not support violence and checks partners who provide palm tree fruit for oil production.

*Keep in mind that while palm oil might be the primary oil source in the HiPP formula, it also contains rapeseed oil in addition to sunflower seed oil. This can all be found in the ingredients list directly on the product label.

Final Thoughts on HiPP Dutch Formula

Almost all baby food brands use vegetable oils to produce their goods. HiPPs Dutch Formula, on the contrary, utilizes palm oil as the main oil to supply baby formula with the required nutrients. The brand is dedicated to producing nourishing and safe baby formula to help babies thrive whose mothers cannot breastfeed.

The company chooses palm oil as its primary ingredient instead of other vegetable oils because it is full of nutrients, including fatty acids and vitamin E. Moreover, it is highly resistant to oxidation.

Best of all, HiPP Dutch Formula makes its food healthy, organic, nourishing, and always fresh.

The information in this article is not entirely correct. While palm oil might be the primary oil source in HiPP formula, it also contains rapeseed oil in addition to sunflower seed oil. This can all be found listed in the ingredients list directly on the product label.
