Working With a Life Coach: My Life, Reimagined

Love it? Pls Share it!

A few days ago I shared with you that I was going to be working with a life coach, and I am happy to say I finally did it!

As I mentioned in my first post, I definitely had my doubts about whether or not working with a life coach would be of any help. But I had reached the point to where I had gotten tired of not knowing what my next step should be to reach what I desire. I had also gotten to the point where I felt lost. I figured speaking with a life coach could only make things better. And I was right.

The big day had finally arrived. About 20 minutes before my appointment, I went into a quiet room where I knew I wouldn’t be disturbed, and followed the instructions in my email to ensure my camera and microphone were working. This basically involved adding a plug-in on Chrome, and took just seconds to install. Since I still had some time before my appointment, and it had been a few days since I was last on the Life Reimagined site, I also spent a few minutes going back over my LifeMap, reminding myself about my Gifts, Passions, Impacts, Values and Purpose.

As the time drew closer, I found myself getting more and more nervous about talking to someone I didn’t know, and I honestly had no clue where to start! However, as soon as I logged into my session and my Life Reimagined life coach popped up on my screen, I was quickly and skillfully put at ease.

She began the session by explaining what life coaching is, how it differs from counseling, and what I could expect to get out of our session. She was very kind and attentive, and so easy to talk to that I quickly relaxed.

After we talked a few more minutes about things like my background and what I hoped to get out of the session, she asked me to bring up my Life Map. I was able to pull it up on my screen to where we could both look at it, and I have to tell you, I was thrilled. I mean, I had found the process of creating my Life Map very informative and telling, but now that I had it, I had no clue what to do with it! However, after she challenged me to really think about and tell her why I had made the selections I’d made, things began to become much clearer.

Through her open-ended questions and guidance, and through real honesty on my part, I was able to think long and hard about the answers I had chosen and actually see why they were so meaningful to me.  She enabled me to see my Life Map from a totally different perspective and to truly understand it.

We continued to work our way through some more questions, including my worries about our future finances, and the fact that I felt like I had accomplished so much in becoming sober and getting my life back, but now I feel very disorganized and lost. Almost like I am stuck, and am not sure what my next step should be.

That was when she really helped open my eyes. Through questions and guidance she helped me realize that these feelings were coming from the fact that I lack a “formal” routine in my life.

Most people get up in the morning, get ready for work, take the kids to school, and leave the house to go to work. They then come home and deal with their home life. However, since I work at home, I lack that distinction between my work life and home life. Add in the fact that I had at some point stopped following a schedule as far as working on my blog and doing household chores, and I began to feel lost and disorganized.

We wrapped up the session by focusing on the ‘how’. How I would reach my goals and work on getting rid of these negative feelings and behaviors. What I needed to change and work on in order to do so. We also discussed some challenges I identified and ways I could positively face those challenges and eventually overcome them.

By the time the session ended, I left with a feeling of clarity and purpose, as well as the excited feeling of facing a new beginning. Most importantly, I left with a wonderful feeling of confidence that I could and would live a purpose-driven life.

But that’s not all I was left with. I also left with a plan and some homework. I am to work on making a separation between work and home life. I am to put myself on a specific working schedule. A schedule that begins when my husband leaves for work, and ends when he gets home.

Not only will this schedule help me accomplish more in both work and home life, but it will also help my relationship with my husband too. No more working on the blog and internet from early morning until bedtime. Instead, nighttime now belongs to me and my family.

I am so happy with the results of my life coaching session. I have already started implementing my new schedule, and am already beginning to feel better. I am also looking forward to my 30-minute follow-up to see my progress!

In addition, the Life Reimagined site offers plenty of tools to help me continue in my journey and growth and to help hold me accountable.

At the same time, my session with a life coach also made me realize I have a few other things I still want to work on, and that is why I am definitely signing up for another!
