Although everyone’s a lot more conscious of their health these days, it can still be easy to slip up, and start neglecting a healthy lifestyle. If the everyday stresses of life or anything else have caused you to neglect those good behaviors, it may be time for a good detox. Don’t worry; I’m not going to send you to any spa retreats or recommend fad diets. Here’s a list of some of the simple and effective ways to detox.

Get More Water
Water is essential for all kinds of bodily functions, and a lot of people aren’t getting enough of it. When you’re looking to flush out the toxins in your body, one of the easiest ways to start is to simply drink more water. Start your day off with a tall glass of water, and try to drink a few more through the day. To make it even better, squeeze the juice from half a lemon into it. Lemon juice helps to rehydrate your body, assists with digestion, and speeds up the flow of waste from your body.
Drink More Tea
Tea, particularly herbal tea, is not only bursting with antioxidants, but also hydrates you, and makes you feel more full up, making it easier to resist the temptation of unhealthy foods. While too much caffeine can be bad for your health, it’s worth noting that the caffeine found in tea is different from the caffeine in coffee. It’s much more gentle on your system, but will still provide you with that refreshing pick-me-up!
Eat More Potassium
Leading experts say that we should get 4,700 milligrams of potassium every day. Odds are, you’re not hitting this marker! Potassium is great for a thorough liver detox if you know you’re drinking a little too much, and also does a lot of good for various other parts of your body. Getting your fill of potassium-rich foods will lower your systolic blood pressure and cholesterol, promoting better cardiovascular health. While supplements can be convenient, if you stick to them alone, you’ll be missing out on various other nutrients in potassium-rich foods.
We all know how important it is to get a healthy level of fruits and vegetables. If you’re looking to improve your diet, you should be focusing on a colorful medley of fruit and veg, along with beans, legumes, and wholegrain wheat products. While you may be getting enough of these foods, you can speed up your detox process by eating whole foods, as processed fruit and veg can often lack the essential nutrients your body needs to cleanse itself.
Aside from tweaking your diet, another of the effective ways to detox, is to make a point to exfoliate toxins from your skin, and refresh your whole body’s circulation. Skin brushing and oil massages, along with various other treatments, are great for this. Aside from flushing more of those nasty toxins out, you’ll also unclog your pores, reduce the chances of breakouts, and give your skin a natural, beautiful glow!
