Kids and Animals – How to Make Sure Your Child Will Be Safe

Kids love animals, but many young children don’t understand that some animals may be quite dangerous even if they look cute and cuddly. For this reason, it is very important that you take extra care of your children whenever they are around animals, even if they are just pets! To make sure your children are never harmed at all, here are some tips for keeping them safe around some very common animals.

Dogs

Dogs are, by nature, quite aggressive animals. Even if they are trying to play with you, you will have no doubt noticed just how boisterous they can be. In fact, sometimes they do not even realize their own strength! So, it is important that you always supervise your children whenever they are around a dog. There are some dog breeds that are more aggressive than others, and it is a good idea to keep them away from these types altogether. These include Rottweilers, German Shepherds, and the American Pit Bull Terrier.

Cats

Conversely, cats aren’t naturally aggressive and will only attack someone if they are ever provoked. And even if they do attack, they usually only nip and scratch. If you have a cat at home, you should teach your children to be very gentle whenever they pet it. Your cat will enjoy being stroked, however, if your children stroke them too hard or fast, it could upset your cat, and it could lash out at them. If you ever visit a friend who has a cat, you should ask permission before your child touches or holds it. After all, it may be bad tempered and might not like being touched at all!

Insects

Your kids might come into contact with a range of insects and bugs when they are playing outside in the garden. It is important that you teach them not to touch anything as it could be allergic or very dirty. Another instance when your children may come into close contact with bugs is if your house is infested. Firstly, you should consider calling a company who works in termite control to fix your problem. This will leave you bug-free. Explain to your children that if they ever see a bug in your home after this, they should tell you straight away so that you can dispose of it.

Horses

Not many children will come into contact with horses on a regular basis. So when they do meet a horse, they are likely to get very excited! It is important that your child is never alone with a horse as all horses have different temperaments and some might lash out even if they aren’t provoked. If your kids feed a horse a treat, make sure they know that they need to feed it off the palm of their hand so that the horse doesn’t bite them by accident.

Children can really benefit from being around animals, as they can learn how to respect and care for them. However, it is super important that your child’s safety is your number one concern!
