One of the main problems that homeowners face is keeping their property free from any pests and vermin. These little critters can enter your home when you aren’t watching and, before you know it, they will have made themselves very much at home in your house. Sometimes, the infestation can be so bad that you may think that there is just no way of getting rid of them.

However, there is no cause to despair as you will find that there is plenty that can be done to fight these pesky creatures. Sure, you could hire a professional bug and vermin exterminator, but these companies can be fairly expensive and might use chemicals that are dangerous for the environment and your family’s own health. Thankfully, there is plenty that you can do on your own, and the good news is that most of these methods are completely organic and natural. Meaning you don’t have to worry about the environment or your family when you try and rid your home of pests and vermin! So how can you get your home back to how it once was? Here are my favorite natural pest control solutions.

Natural Fly Traps

Now that winter is almost over, the weather will start to heat up, which means you will have to deal with all the bugs and insects that the good weather brings. And one of the most annoying of these insects is the common housefly. These are very dirty creatures and can spread germs and bacteria by landing on your food. Unfortunately, they can be very tricky to catch and kill because they are so darn fast! Thankfully, there is one fantastic solution. You just need to buy some natural fly traps. These often come in the form of sticky plastic that you hang in the middle of your rooms. The plastic is coated with a sweet substance that attracts the flies. They then land on it thinking that it is food, but get stuck to the plastic and die. Be sure to hang your traps in problem areas, such as the kitchen.

Use Essential Oils

If you can manage to keep any pests out of your house in the first place, you won’t have to go to any trouble of trying to get them out! This may be easier said than done, but it isn’t totally impossible. And there is one natural method that works quite well. You just need some essential oils. Flies and ants hate the smell of essential oils, so if you place them around entryways and small holes which some insects could enter through, you will notice that you don’t have quite as many creepy crawlies coming into your home. First of all,  you need to mix a solution. Mix together some fresh water with a few drops of peppermint oil, basil oil, and lemon oil. These are fragrances that pests and insects can’t stand! Thankfully, they smell pretty good to us! Then just dab on some of the mixture to the frames of your doors and windows and around any holes and gaps, and the insects will be instantly repelled!

Buy Some Basil Plants

Basil plants are great for the garden. You can find them quite cheaply in garden centers, and once you have a few in your garden, you will have a constant supply of basil leaves for all your cooking. Just think of all the fresh pesto you could make! Not only that, though, but they also give off a fantastic aroma. It smells great to us, however, pests and insects absolutely hate it! So, one useful trick is to place some basil plants as close to your windows and doors as possible. That way, insects won’t want to come near the entryways to get into your home. You could add a few window boxes to your windows to make sure you can add the plants as near to them as possible. Once you do this, the great aroma from the plants will waft into your house. Lovely!

Organic Poisons

Many homeowners are reluctant to use poisons that target pests and vermin in their homes as many of them contain lots of chemicals and artificial ingredients. All of these ingredients can be harmful to the environment, and could also have effects on people’s health if they are used over a long period of time. However, producers have now cottoned onto the fact that people are wary of using these, and are now starting to manufacture poisons that are completely natural and organic. These are very effective at getting rid of household pets and vermin. You will be able to find them in your local supermarket, garden center, and home stores.

Remove Trash

One reason why rats and mice get into houses is that the owners leave out leftover food and trash. You will find that if you keep your home tidy and clean, you won’t be affected by so many vermin. If you remember to store leftovers correctly and take your trash out on a regular basis, you won’t be plagued by vermin. However, many people find they have a problem with garbage after they have had a party or after big events such as Christmas. They just don’t have the storage facilities for all this extra trash. That’s when a company such as a rubbish removal firm could help you out by taking away your excess rubbish.

Flea Collars

If you have pets, they could be bringing in bugs, such as fleas, into your home. One way around this is to make your cats and dogs wear a flea collar. You can find lots of collars that are coated with herbal solutions that repel fleas. Once the dog or cat is wearing their new collar, they won’t attract any fleas. In fact, the fleas will be actively repelled. So there is no more need to worry about these small creatures getting into your home and infecting you!

As you can see, natural pest control is very easy!
