As a member of Mom Select, Werther’s sent product to facilitate this review. Regardless, all opinions are my own.
UPDATE: Unfortunately, it appears that Werther’s may no longer be making these Baking Caramels. I have been unable to find them, as have some readers. 🙁 However, don’t fret because the good news is that using the Soft Caramel candies instead works just fine!
Werther’s Original Baking Caramels
The days are getting shorter, the air is getting cooler…the holidays are on the way. ‘Tis the season for baking! I love to bake and to try new things in the kitchen, especially when they involve caramel! So when I was offered the opportunity as a member of MomSelect to participate in the Werther’s Original Baking Bash Mommy Party and try their new baking caramels, my mouth began watering just thinking about it!
Werther’s has been my favorite hard candy ever since I was little. I love the rich, creamy buttery taste, and how they practically melt on your tongue! So I was thrilled to hear that they were now making a baking caramel!
Werther’s Baking Caramels are the only baking caramels made with fresh cream and real butter. Each individually wrapped caramel is easy-to-open, soft and chewy and full of gooey goodness. These baking caramels are ideal for making so many wonderful treats! They quickly melt into smooth and creamy goodness using either the stove or microwave, and have such a wonderful caramel-y taste.
Below are just a few of the recipes I made for the party using these delicious caramels, all of which would make a great holiday gift!
Werther’s Baking Caramels Recipes
Caramel Hot Cocoa Recipe
Ingredients: hot cocoa mix, milk and Werther’s Baking Chocolates.
Instructions: Bring 3/4 cup milk just to a boil on stove top, reduce heat. Stir in 2 packs of hot cocoa mix until completely blended. Add in 5 Werther’s Baking Caramels, stirring until completely melted. I found they melt even quicker if you first cut the caramels into even smaller pieces. If you like whipped cream, add a good-sized dollop on top, sprinkle with chocolate shavings and serve.
Servings: 1 good-size mug

Instructions: Spray cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray. I also sprayed my spatula to keep caramel from sticking. Melt Baking Caramels and Hard Caramels with butter and water in a medium size saucepan over low heat until smooth, stirring frequently. Add the peanuts and cook for 2 minutes. Stir in the baking soda and the vanilla extract. immediately spread out thinly onto the cookie sheet to cool completely. Break into pieces once cool.
Servings: makes a little over 1/2 a cookie sheet
GIFT IDEA: Place peanut brittle in a decorative tin, box or bags ( if possible, line with wax paper first). Tie with a ribbon.
Caramel Drizzled Popcorn Recipe
Ingredients: 3 to 4 cups of popped popcorn (microwave or stove top). 15 Werther’s Baking Caramels, 1 tsp milk.
Instructions: Prepare the popcorn first, place in a bowl (I lightly sprayed the bowl with cooking spray, as well as the spatula to keep caramel popcorn from sticking). Microwave 15 Werther’s Baking Caramels and the milk together in a bowl for about 2 minutes or until caramels are completely melted. Stop halfway through cooking and stir, being sure to keep an eye on it. Once completely melted, drizzle over the popcorn stirring as you pour.
Servings: three to four 1 cup servings
GIFT IDEA: Place popcorn in a wax paper lined decorative Holiday tin and tie with a ribbon.

Oh my goodness I love Werthers, especially when I was a kid. They were my favorite candy I loved the buttery goodness. I saw in the store yesterday that they had the little balls, but I have not yet seen these. All the recipes look wonderful and would make great gifts for Christmas candy tins. Thanks for sharing.
