4th of July Patriotic Brownie Bombs Instructions
The first part of making this 4th of July recipe is to make the mini brownie bites. As is, the total time to make these Patriotic Brownie Bombs is around 45 minutes, but that includes 30 minutes worth of cooling time.
Preparing the Brownie Bites
Step One: Preheat and Prep
Begin by preheating your over to 350°. Then line a mini muffin pan with paper liners or a silicon liner and set aside.
Step Two: Combine Flour and Cocoa
In a small mixing bowl, add the flour and cocoa powder. Whisk to blend well and set it to the side.
Step Three: Melt Chocolate and Butter
Next, melt the butter and mini chocolate chips until smooth and shiny using a double boiler, microwave, or other method. Stir constantly until well combined and completely melted. Then, remove from heat and set aside.
Step Four: Combine Eggs, Sugar, Salt and Extract
Next, add the eggs, sugar, extract, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Whisk together for 1 minute to fully incorporate the ingredients.
Step Five: Add Melted Chocolate
Then, slowly pour in the melted chocolate and butter mixture stirring well to combine.
Step Six: Stir in Flour Mixture
Now, add the flour mixture stirring until fully mixed.
Step Seven: Add Batter to Pan
Using a large spoon or small cookie dough scoop, spoon the brownie batter into the muffin cups filling each one about ⅔ full. Do not fill them to the top because the batter will expand while cooking.
Step Eight: Bake
Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 8-10 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
Step Nine: Cool
Once baked, allow the Patriotic Brownie Bombs to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to finish cooling.
Instructions for Decorating 4th of July Brownie Bombs
Once the brownie bites are ready, it is time to decorate them to turn them into a festive July 4th dessert. This part is also easy. In fact, it’s so easy the kids can help!
Step One: Prep
- Begin by lining a cookie sheet with wax paper and set aside.
Step Two: Drain and Chill Cherries
- Pour the cherries into a strainer to remove excess juice, then transfer to a bowl and chill for 5 minutes (this will help the chocolate to harden almost immediately).
Step Three: Melt Royal Blue Candy Melts
- Next, in a microwave-safe bowl, microwave the royal blue chocolate melts for 45 seconds.
- Stir until completely melted. This Wilton Melting Pot works great for melting the candy, too!
Step Four: Dip
- Once the chocolate is ready, dip half of the chilled cherries into the melted chocolate
- Then immediately sprinkle with the red, white, and blue jimmies after each dip.
- Place each dipped cherry on the cookie sheet to set.
Step Five: Melt Light Blue Candy Melts
- Next, in a microwave-safe bowl, microwave the light blue chocolate melts for 45 seconds. Stir until completely melted.
Step Six: Dip Remaining Cherries
- Dip the remaining cherries into the melted light blue chocolate
- Immediately sprinkle with the red, white, and blue nonpareils.
- Place on the cookie sheet to harden for about 5 minutes.
Step Seven: Top the Brownie Bites with the Cherries
- Once the chocolate on the cherries has set, add about ½ to 1 teaspoon of cookie icing on top of each brownie bite. The icing is the ‘glue’ to hold the cherries on the top of the brownie bites.
- Then place the decorated cherries on top of the icing.
Step Eight: Let Set
- Let the cookie icing set for about 10 minutes, serve and enjoy!
And there you have it, a delicious treat for your summer patriotic celebrations!
