Years ago the neutral color reigned in home designs. Various shades of cream, beige and gray were very popular. But it all seemed pretty bland when you didn’t have a punchy accent color to brighten things up. Nowadays there are hundreds of bold tones that can bring beautiful shades of color into your home. And there is no end of places where you can let them shine through!
Heat
Even in the hottest climates, it can get chilly in the evening. Most of us have a radiator or heater on the wall. Some of us even have a gas fireplace. Fire glass is just one way to bring deep and rich colors to life. You’ll need to use a fire glass calculator to figure out how much you need. Then sit back and let the flames do their job. If you have heaters or radiators, paint them in a vibrant accent color. You can use a wooden frame cover if you can’t paint the heater directly. Use colors that match your soft furnishings, or maybe a punchier tone to enrich the style of the room.

Light
Most of us use several different lights in a room. There are ceiling lights like chandeliers. Wall lights and table lights offer a more focused or directional light. While the fitting might be decorative, they rarely offer that splash of color we’re looking for. In the past, light fabrics like scarves could be placed over the lamp to offer a colored hue. This can be a fire hazard, and may damage your scarf! Instead, consider using a light bulb that can change color. Most are app controlled and offer dimmer controls too.
Doors
Rather than painting an accent wall, why not paint the door an accent color? You can choose the brightest tone of the room, and it will sit well within a white frame. Alternatively, you can use brightly colored decals to decorate the door in more vibrant tones. Usually these can be easily removed if you wish to change your mind. Many cost less than a large tin of paint too. If you often leave the door open, consider painting all the edges that are visible from the room.

Many of us are more willing to be daring with bright colors in the dining room. But have you considered bringing a vibrant color to your crockery and glassware? Many of us bring the accent color alive in the table runner or the drapes. Colorful crockery is a great way to dress your dining room and it can be a pleasure to eat from as well. You might choose a pattern or a solid color. Choose a softer hue for the napkins or centerpiece.
Color can bring a positive mood or help you relax. Vibrant colors can energize and even inspire. Having lots of vivid or bold colors around the place can certainly brighten things up. All it takes are one or two accents to turn a drab room into a dream. What’s your favorite accent color?
