5 Things To Do During Labor Day Weekend
Are you stuck wondering what to do on Labor Day weekend? Well, keep reading! No matter where you find yourself during Labor Day weekend this year ––alone or with others ––there are adventures to have and memories to make. Best of all, with these fun things to do on Labor Day weekend, you can comfortably honor your days off without having to pay them back with overtime.
1. Attend a local food festival.
In every major and minor city across Canada and the U.S., there are a variety of food, wine and music festivals held during Labor Day weekend. There are also street and county fairs galore. (It’s the best time; no one has to go to work!) Venture into town and enjoy craft shows, performances, micro-brews, and cuisines from around the globe. Try something new, or something you thought you’d never try. Many of these festival events are free or have entrance fees under $10. Eat, drink, dance, be merry and mingle!
2. Take a trail less traveled.
For spectacular views and a healthy heart, try going for a hike during the Labor Day weekend. In North America, there are many hiking trails that range from easy strolling to a grueling workout. Better yet, being in nature will revive your spirit for when you return to the monotony of the work week.
3. Lend a helping hand.
We all could use one. Though you might not want to work during your time off, you could stretch your heart volunteering your time and skills during Labor Day weekend. Check in with local animal shelters, food banks, soup kitchens, or a Boys & Girls Club. See if they need a hand. Whatever the work is, or whomever profits from it, will be grateful for the extra help.
4. Make noise (and art).
Home from work with nothing to do is the perfect excuse to create. Gather your friends or family members and create a home video or craft project. You can create something patriotic to display, or silly to remember. Relax, renew, and recharge with art. Or if your uninspired to create, visit a museum.
5. Embrace the great outdoors.
No matter where you live, there is a nearby park or campground to explore from sea to shining sea. Consider the Arches of Utah, or the California Channel Islands. Indulge in the colorful layers of Arizona’s Grand Canyon, or the Great Sand Dunes of Colorado. If traveling is not an option and you still don’t know what to do on Labor Day weekend, pitch a tent in the backyard. Backyard camping is a great way to camp without too much chaos (especially if you have kids). Roast nachos and s’mores, and have banana splits for breakfast. Grab the spotlight and play flashlight tag for hours. There are many things to do for Labor Day weekend, and these are just a few. But don’t forget the fireworks! Nothing sums up summertime better.

Camping and fishing are always at the top of my list - but I have to work more often then not on Labor Day. These are fun ideas my wife and kids would love too. Thanks for sharing.

Great ideas for keeping busy on Labor Day. I like the idea of visiting a food festival. I think I might have to look and see what is going on in my area.

Nice ideas, we like to just BBQ and hang out in the pool ourselves for a nice quite relaxing day.

We normally just hang around the house and swim on Labor day. However, I am open to trying new things over the Holiday weekend.
