Below, you’ll find the essential ingredients required to transform your Snickerdoodle cookies into delightful Turkey creations. Get ready to add a touch of whimsy to your baking adventure!

  • Large Cookies: I used store-bought 3-inch Snickerdoodle cookies for some cinnamon-sugar warmth and turkey cookie perfection.
  • Autumn Mix Candy Corn: For the vibrant feathers and a sweet little beak.
  • Candy Eyes: Playful peepers to bring your turkeys to life.
  • Pretzel Sticks: For legs and feet, a salty crunch and whimsical delight.
  • Cookie Icing (white): A sweet adhesive for crafting cookie magic.

Below are the step-by-step instructions that will guide you through the process of crafting these delightful Turkey Cookies. Let’s turn these ordinary cookies into festive and adorable treats with ease!

Step One: Prepare Pretzel Legs and Feet

  • Carefully cut or break several pretzel sticks in half. If the kids are helping, make sure an adult does this step.
  • Additionally, cut or break several pretzel sticks into five to six small pieces which will be the turkey’s feet.
  • Set these pieces aside for later.

Step Two: Attach Feathers with Icing

  • Using icing as edible glue, carefully pipe the icing around the outer edge of the top half of each cookie.
  • Then place the candy corn on top of the icing, forming a vibrant row of feathers along the top edge.

Pro Tip

When adding the candy corn, make sure you have the pointy end pointing downwards so they look like real feathers!

Step Three: Adorn with Candy Eyes

  • Again using the icing as glue, affix two candy eyes to the cookie, adding a playful touch to your turkey creation.

Step Four: Add Candy Corn Beak

  • Then, again using icing as the adhesive, place one candy corn beneath the eyes with the pointed end facing down, to give your turkey a sweet and whimsical beak.

Step Five: Attach Pretzel Legs and Feet

  • Lastly, add the pretzel legs and feet to the bottom edge of the cookie. Placing the legs at a slight angle, use the icing to secure the two pretzel halves onto the bottom of the cookie.
  • Then add two small pretzel pieces to each leg for cute little feet.

Step Six: Allow Icing to Set

  • Before indulging in your delightful Turkey Cookies, allow the icing to set for several minutes (10 to 15). This ensures a firm hold for all the charming decorations.

🎉 Voila! And there you have it! You’ve created a flock of charming, edible turkeys that are as fun to make as they are to eat. Share these festive treats with family and friends, and let the Thanksgiving celebrations begin! 🦃

Variations on Turkey Cookies

Embark on a journey of creative possibilities with our Snickerdoodle Turkey Cookie variations! From chocolatey indulgence to vibrant bursts of color, explore unique twists that add a playful touch to your festive treats.

Feathered Fun: Simplify the design by omitting the pretzel legs and feet, and focus solely on the charming face and colorful candy feathers.

Fruity Fusion: Experiment with fruity cereal pieces for a playful and tangy variation, offering a unique texture to your turkey cookies.

Flavor Twist: Try using a different cookie base for a surprising flavor twist.

How do I store Turkey Cookies?

After creating these adorable Snickerdoodle Turkey Cookies, you can store them in an airtight container at room temperature. This will help preserve their freshness and prevent them from becoming stale.

In order to maintain the decorations, consider placing parchment paper between layers. This will keep the candy eyes and candy corn from sticking together.

While storing at room temperature is ideal, avoid refrigerating the cookies. The moisture in the fridge can compromise the texture and flavor, affecting the overall quality.

For the best taste and visual appeal, eat your turkey cookies within a week of making them. This ensures they are at their freshest and most delightful state.

Note: While the Turkey Cookies remain safe to eat beyond a week, their freshness and visual charm will diminish over time. Therefore, enjoy them promptly for the best experience!

Can I freeze Turkey Cookies?

Yes! If you wish to extend their shelf life, these cookies can be frozen. Just ensure they are well-wrapped and placed in an airtight container to prevent freezer burn.

When you are ready for them, allow them to thaw at room temperature before serving.

What can I use other than candy corn for turkey feathers?

You can get creative with alternatives for turkey feathers! Consider using chocolate-covered sunflower seeds, small chocolate candies like M&Ms, Skittles, licorice, or even colorful cereal pieces to add a unique and vibrant touch to your Turkey Cookies. The key is to choose candies that offer a variety of colors and textures for a playful and eye-catching display.

If you have more questions I did not answer, feel free to ask! I will answer them as quickly as possible.
