Keep the Peace with Five of the Best Road Trip Apps for Kids
You’ve been on the road for hours, and you’ve played almost every game known to man to keep the kids entertained. Soon the questions will begin, “How Much Longer?”, and parent’s all time favorite, “Are We There Yet?”. While I am not a parent who advocates letting my child spend all of his time playing with his electronics, I am well aware that there are plenty of times that apps can come in handy. And long road trips happen to be one of those times! Today I’ve partnered with BMW of Oyster Bay to bring you five of the best road trip apps for kids.
1. Toontastic Ages 6 to 8
Kids love using their imaginations, and with the Toontastic app they can do just that by creating their very own cartoons! This fun-filled app will guide your child through a step-by-step process of creating their very own stories, each of which can contain narration and music. Once it is complete, they can then share it (anonymously) online or with family!

2. Tales2Go Elementary School and Up
If your child loves reading, yet gets car sick looking at books in the car, this is the app for them! Tales2Go is like the Netflix of audio books. Kids can follow their favorite book characters, choose books by celebrity narrator or by grade level, and even listen in Spanish! It not only makes road trips more fun, it makes them more educational too! The app does come with a subscription fee, but you also get a free 30-day trial.
iOS and Android
3. Sago Mini Road Trip Ages 2-5
This fun-filled, simple, rules-free exploration app lets kids go on an exciting drive with Jinga the Cat – and they are the ones in control! Your child gets to pick the destination (there are 6 total) and the vehicle and then take the controls as they explore various places at their own pace. Filled with interactive activities, animated friends, and magical destinations just waiting for children to explore, this app will keep your child entertained for hours!
iOS and Kindle
4. State Bingo and Road Trip USA Ages 9-11
iOS
This app is fun for the whole family! Although it is an educational app, kids will have a blast as they try to answer geography questions and puzzlers about each great state in the United States. The app includes over 600 questions, 3 difficulty levels, and lots of fun illustrations and maps!
iOS
5. Mad Libs Ages 9-11
iOS
Everyone’s favorite road trip game is now an app! Kids get to type in nouns, take pictures or even use photos from their smartphone or iPad’s photo gallery to create a comedic story. Once everything is entered, they can then watch the comedy ensue. The app will even save the story the kids make as a photo for recalling the fun after the trip has ended!
These are just a sampling of the hundreds of great travel apps that are available for kids and that can help make the drive smooth, calm and lots of fun! Check out Google Play and the App Store for others.
Happy Travels!
