It’s the weekend, and it’s raining. There’s nothing worse. You don’t want to go out in the rain, and you’ve unruly and bored children to deal with. What can you do to keep the kids entertained on a rainy day? Don’t be stuck for ideas, we’ll give you a hand.

Board Games

Always a classic. Board games have been a staple of rainy days for kids and adults alike for generations. We’ve all played them. If you’ve got kids, you’ve hopefully got a few board games lying around. Just try to make sure they’ve got all their pieces.

Some children can be a little competitive when it comes to these. Just remind them to have fun. It’s a game after all.

Arts & Crafts

A great way to keep the kids busy for hours. You can either give them a task to make something or let them have their imaginations run wild. When you’ve got kids, it’s always a good idea to have some crafts materials around the house. If you’re expecting a few rainy days in the next week or so, be sure to stock up.

Depending on how old your kids are, you can start getting more elaborate with the crafts materials if they’re older. Young kids will probably have to stick with felt, glue, and a little bit of glitter.

Television

Nothing beats a bit of a flake out on the sofa with the family. You can find affordable cable television, Internet and digital phone bundled packages online, so you can stick something on for the kids while you browse the net on your smartphone.

A lot of cable television packages have channels especially for children, so they’ll be well pleased. You might even see a few timeless classic cartoons for your generation too.

Indoor Sports

Of course, you can’t play football or tennis indoors. There are options though. How about getting yourself a mini pool or ping pong table before the rain starts? Not only are they fun little ways to kill time, they can teach your children. Pool is about physics and strategy while ping pong teaches athleticism and helps improve reaction times.

Writing

There’s nothing like doing a bit of creative writing to get the mind working. This is the same for kids too. It inspires their creativity and helps their language skills. Turns out the best way to get kids to learn is to trick them into having fun too.

Just give them some lined paper and a pencil. Just make sure they’re not drawing all over the walls and you can let them get on with it. It’ll hopefully take up the couple of hours needed for the rain to stop.

Cook

If you’re making lunch or dinner, why not get your child to help? Of course, they can’t do anything too dangerous like cutting vegetables or doing anything with the oven. Why not teach them to put together the salad though, or set the table?

If you want to, you can try baking together. This is a great bonding experience for those dreary rainy days where they can’t play outside.

Who needs good weather when you’ve got fun activities like this?!
