The girls’ trip made it out of the group chat. Finally! You booked this place for brunch, then a rooftop bar, then a restaurant for dinner, a café everyone is dying to visit, and so on. But there’s still plenty of time to stay active on vacation between all those delicious stops.

So what are you going to do between meals and drinks?

How about exercise? Not the kind that you'd need a gym for, don't worry.

Ask everyone to pack some gym clothes so you can go hiking, cycling, swimming, and perhaps even running. And before you say that this doesn't sound like a vacation, remember that you can go on a sunrise hike to a place you've never been to before, or you can taste your way through a picturesque neighborhood and get food and a walk at the same time.

You can't say this doesn't sound like a vacation, right?

5 Ways to Add Some Movement to Your Vacation

You know what you want to eat and what you want to see. Here are five fun ways to stay more active during all that.

Cycle Between Cafés

You saved a particular café because the pastries look unreal, and you can't wait to get there. Why not bike? Check whether you can get there by biking, hop on, and exercise a little. Also, this gives you a chance to see more of the town because you don't have to walk all the time.

Before you rent a bike, though, check the roads and ask the other girls whether they're okay with taking a bike. Check where you can park, get locks and helmets, and make as many stops as you want. Before heading out, make sure everyone has a properly fitted bike helmet.

You don't need this to be an actual workout; you're just trying to move a little. The priority is still enjoying yourself.

Everyone Else's Normal Routines Also Deserve Love

There's more than one girl on this trip. This means multiple 'normals' that you somehow have to cram into one trip and into one day without creating a fuss or ruckus. Everyone deserves the same amount of attention.

So let's be fair.

Think about it – you might be fully dressed and ready for that dinner at 8 because you're starving, but your friend is not exactly a morning person, and she wants to sleep until at least 10. Your stomach disagrees.

In order to avoid these types of situations, which can easily escalate into an argument that can ruin the trip, it's best to fully prepare beforehand.

To do that, it's best to ask everyone what they do in the morning and when they usually wake up, whether they eat breakfast or not (some people don't); things like that. It's maybe best to meet up before it, or you can create a chat group where you can all easily talk.

Once that's been taken care of, you can pick a time that works for everyone. You can go to breakfast separately and meet after if that works better, but when it comes to activities, don't book anything until you know the time is okay for everyone.

And check your packing, as well. If you take supplements, like a multivitamin-mineral complex or a cartilage peptide bioregulator, look at what's on the label and how you need to store them before you put them in your bag and head out. You don't want them going bad simply because you've stored them incorrectly.

Stop for Swimming

You get to the beach, and the water is beautiful, but your bathing suit is back at the hotel, chilling in your suitcase. Bummer.

Now everyone else gets to swim while you get to hold their bags.

Pack your swimsuit before you go out, even if swimming isn't the star of the day. And if you plan on swimming, pick a place where you can actually do that. Not every part of the coast is suitable, so check local guidance, choose a designated swimming area with lifeguards, and always swim with a buddy.

Bring a towel. water, a bag for wet things, and whatever you do, don't forget sun protection!

Turn One Meal Into a Walking Food Tour

You've got a list of restaurants you want to visit, but it would be a shame if that's all the food you get to try out. Go for a walk and then make a stop here and there. You could start at a market stall and pick up a local dish, and then go for dessert someplace else. It's best to keep everything within one neighborhood because you don't want to be exhausted after the walk.

Before you set off, you'll want to check opening hours and dietary needs.

You can also book a guided tour and let someone else worry about the route.

Pick One Outdoor Activity You Can Learn Together

How about kayaking? Even if all the experience you have is watching other people do it, give it a shot if nobody minds. Book a session that includes instruction because that's the safest way to go about it.

Everyone should know exactly what they're about to do, so keep that in mind.

You don't want someone to be unpleasantly surprised 5 minutes before you're about to start.

Conclusion

Not everything needs to be booked before you even leave your house.

Winging it can turn out great when you're on a vacation, but if you're trying to do something specific (e.g., go rock climbing, be more active, go diving, etc.), you'll have to make some arrangements beforehand.

And remember that an afternoon spent sitting around talking is not wasted. As long as everyone's having fun, you're doing it right.
