Step 6: Allow the Donuts to Set

  • Once the icing has hardened, the ears and facial features will stay securely in place.

And that’s it! Your super cute no-bake Easter Bunny Donuts dessert is finished! Remember to allow the icing to set for at least 20 minutes before serving.

How To Make Your Own Bunny Ears From Marshmallows

If you can’t find candy ears, marshmallows make a perfect DIY alternative.

Using scissors, cut each marshmallow on the diagonal, then immediately press the sticky cut side into pink sanding sugar.

Next, trim a small flat area on the bottom of each marshmallow ear so it sits nicely on the donut.

Finally, add a small amount of gel icing to the flat side and attach the ears to the top edge of the donut. Hold them in place for a few seconds until the icing begins to set.

Alternate Ear Attachment Methods

If you’re having trouble getting the ears to stay in place, you can also:

• use toothpicks to secure them
• create ears using white and pink taffy
• shape fondant bunny ears

Just remember to warn kids about toothpicks before serving

Helpful Tips for Perfect Easter Bunny Donuts

Making these bunny donuts is easy, but a few simple tricks can make the decorating process even smoother.

Work slowly when inserting the ears.
Powdered donuts are soft and crumbly, so gently twist the ears into the slits instead of pushing them straight in.

Use gel icing instead of regular icing.
Gel icing works best as edible “glue” because it holds decorations in place faster.

Let the donuts sit before serving.
Allowing the icing to set for about 20 minutes helps keep the ears and whiskers from sliding around.

Decorate just before serving.
Powdered donuts can absorb moisture over time, so decorating the same day keeps them looking their best.

Make it a fun Easter activity for kids.

Easter Bunny Donuts are an easy no-bake Easter dessert that everyone will love! Delicious white powdered donuts are topped with adorable bunny ears and faces in this fun recipe that doubles as Easter dessert table decor.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 bag mini white powdered donuts
  • 1 kit Bunny Cupcake Decorating Kit
  • 1 tube Gel Icing, white

Without the Bunny Kit

  • 1 bag mini white powdered donuts
  • 1 tube gel icing, white
  • 1 package licorice strings, black
  • 16 small candy eyes
  • 4 marshmallows, for the ears
  • 1 container sanding sugar, pink, for inside of ears
  • pink jelly bellies OR tube of pink icing, for the nose

Instructions

Using Cupcake Decorating Kit

  1. First, use a butter knife to carefully make two small slits on the top side of each donut.
  2. Next, add a bit of gel icing to the bottom of each candy ear. Then carefully insert each ear into the slits. Do not push too hard or too quickly or the donut will crumble. You may also need to hold the ears for a few seconds until the icing becomes tacky enough to hold them upright.
  3. Next, use a tiny amount of gel icing to the back of each candy eye then put them into place on the donut.
  4. Then cut 4 small pieces of black licorice to use as the rabbit's whiskers. Once cut, add a small amount of gel icing to one side of the licorice pieces to act as glue. Then place the whiskers - 2 per side- on each side of the donut's hole.
  5. Lastly, use a small dab of icing on the backside of the candy nose then place it on top of the whiskers.

Without Decorating Kit

  1. For the ears: using scissors, cut each marshmallow on the diagonal, and then immediately press the sticky cut side into the sprinkles. Next, cut a flat area on the bottom of each marshmallow ear. Lastly, add some gel icing to the flat part and then quickly put the ears in place on the top edge of each donut. You will have to hold the ears in place for a few until the icing dries.
  2. An alternate way to attach the ears is to use toothpicks. Just be sure to remind little ones about the toothpicks before they bite into the donut.
  3. Another option is to use white and pink taffy to make your own rabbit ears. Simply shape a piece of white taffy into the classic rabbit ear shape. Then add some pink taffy to make the inside part. You will need to use a toothpick to attach the taffy ears to the donut.
  4. Once ears are attached, follow the above instructions for finishing the Easter Bunny Donuts.
