I love sleeping in a comfortable bed with soft sheets and a cozy comforter, but if there is one thing I cannot stand, it is when you put on a fitted sheet and it doesn’t, well, fit. We have a memory foam mattress, and this particular one happens to be a bit thinner than most mattresses today. This causes a problem in that almost any fitted sheet we put on the bed winds up being loose with wrinkles that, to me, feel like mountains (the Princess and the Pea Syndrome).
I must have my fitted sheets tight and firm. Each night we pull it taut hoping it will stay somewhat tight, and within minutes I can feel it slipping around a bit and the wrinkle-mountains forming. At this time we cannot replace the mattress, nor am I going to go and buy a new set of sheets which most likely will wind up being too large anyway.
Thankfully, I found the solution when I was recently given the opportunity to try a unique and innovative product to make your loose fitted sheet fit firmly, the Original BedBand.
What is the Original BedBand?
Basically, the Original BedBand is a sturdy elastic band with clips on both ends that you attach to the corners of your fitted sheet. This effectively pulls in the slack causing the sheet to fit firm and flat.
While there are other similar products out there, The Original BedBands use high quality elastic cord, durable nickel plated clamps, built-in fabric protectors and push button cord locks.
Each BedBand measures approximately 12″ from end to end and will stretch to almost 18″. They will work on all types of mattresses including pillow tops, and will even work on standard and pillow top futons!
The clamps found on each end of the band are easy to open and close, and since they have plastic protectors over the gripper teeth, your sheets will not be damaged.
Using the cord-lock buttons, you can quickly adjust the bands to either add more tension by pushing the button and pulling the cord, or to release tension by pushing the button and releasing some cord. Either way, the cord-locks make it easy to pull the sheet as tight as you prefer.
How the Original BedBands Work
Installation is not very hard once you get the hang of it. You start by placing the sheet on the bed as normal. Then you open the clamps on both ends of the bands and attach them to the sheet on all four corners – yes, you’ll have to pull the sheet off at each corner as you add them. I found it works best by placing them 5 to 8″ from the corner’s center.
You then adjust the amount of tension by pressing the cord-lock button and pulling the cord towards you. Once you get it to the desired tension, release the cord lock button. Repeat this on all four corners until the sheet is fitted the way you like.
If you need to lift the mattress to get the sheet on due to the bed being against a wall or next to furniture, it is suggested to install the bands before placing the sheet on the bed.
In this scenario you will want to spread the band clamps farther apart, and be sure to move the cord stop to the side of the sheet corner that you will be able to reach the easiest and adjust the tension.
Once the BedBands are attached, place the sheet on the bed and pull the bands around the corner of the mattress – this way you can tighten them from the side of the bed without having to lift the mattress.
To remove the BedBands just press the button on the cord lock while pulling the cord towards you to release. Then unhook the clamps and they are off.
Review of the Original BedBand
I was so excited that the minute they arrived, I went directly back to the bedroom to install. Since this was my first time, I have to admit it took me awhile – not to get them on all four corners of the sheet, but to get them adjusted to the perfect amount of tension. I wound up going from corner to corner to corner, being completely unorganized about it.
The second time I applied them, I had a better idea of exactly where to place them and how much tension to apply on each side. That time it was much easier and much quicker! The Original BedBands did exactly as advertised and made the fitted sheet fit tightly, with no wrinkles.
Both my husband and I do a lot of tossing and turning throughout the night, so I was pleased to see that the next morning, the sheet was still firmly attached to the mattress. It wasn’t perfectly flat and firm, but it was not loose and full of wrinkles either. It fit just the way it was meant to.
The Original BedBand not only works great on sheets that are larger than the mattress, but they also work wonders on sheets that have lost their elasticity. You can even turn a flat sheet into your fitted sheet by using the bands to secure it!
Plus there are plenty of other uses for the bands aside from the original use. Use them on the futon, on air mattresses, RV, trailer and camper beds. Use them to secure your grill cover, furniture covers, tablecloths, pet bedding, tarps for outdoor equipment, boat and car seat covers, wheelchairs, and so much more!
The Original BedBands come four to a pack, and are available in two colors, black and white. You can purchase them directly through the BedBand website, as well as on Amazon.com. The price is a steal, too, especially considering the options: sleep uncomfortably with your fitted sheet pulling off the mattress each time you turn, buy new sheets or buy a new bed. Make your fitted sheet live up to its name with the Original BedBands.
