The way our hair looks can make a big difference to how confident we feel so, if your hair is not in as good condition as it could be, it might be time to do something about it. Here are 4 ways to keep your hair in great condition.
Choosing the right shampoo and conditioner
Choosing the right shampoo and conditioner is essential if you want your hair to be healthy, shiny, and manageable. If you suffered from dry and flaky skin, you wouldn’t go for a moisturizer geared towards an oily complexion, and the same principles apply here. If your hair is dry or damaged, choose a product suitable for your hair type.
If you swim regularly, your hair can take a beating from the chlorine, so it’s worth looking for a specialist shampoo. There’s a good range of swimmer’s hair care available these days, which will help keep your hair shiny and hydrated.
Is a haircut long overdue?
As well as making you look and feel better, it’s important to remember that a haircut will also positively impact the condition of your hair. A good cut helps to get rid of split ends, so if it’s been a while since you visited your favorite salon for a bit of a freshening up, it might be time to do something about it.
If you are a sucker for a head of highlights but your hair is constantly frizzy, dry, or out of control, it might be worth discussing alternatives with your stylist. Highlights are likely to dry your hair, so going au naturel, if only for a little while, might make all the difference.
Protect your hair from the elements
The weather can affect the condition of your hair, so you must try and keep it protected. Cold, dry weather can damage and dry your hair, so in extreme conditions, grab a hat and keep it covered up. Using a conditioner every time you wash your hair will help to lock in moisture and when showering, try not to have the water too hot as it can strip your hair of moisture.
The sun can also cause problems with your hair. Prolonged sun exposure can damage the hair cuticle and cause discoloration, brittle strands, and split ends. Wearing a sun hat, staying in the shade, or using a protective spray will help to reduce the potential damage.
Eat a healthy diet and drink lots
Eating a healthy diet packed with an array of fruit and vegetables can do wonders for the condition of your hair. They are full of antioxidants, phytonutrients, and other health-promoting benefits, so, as well as making you feel great, they can also improve the condition of your skin and your hair.
Making sure you stay hydrated is very important. If your hair looks dull and lifeless, start drinking 2-3 liters of water every day, and you should notice a remarkable improvement in as little as a month.
