Sometimes I think that people assume turning their home into a super cool ecozone is going to cost them, even more, money. It might be true that you have a big upfront cost when it comes to some installations; however, the pay off over the years will save you a lot of money. Just look at some of the ways that being green can save you green.

Being Green Saves You Green

One of the greatest wastes of energy is through heat loss. Nearly 25% of the heat produced by your boiler will escape through the roof of your home. Another 35% of the heat will escape through the walls and gaps, in and around windows and doors.

Finally, 10% of heat will disappear through the floor. That is a lot of wasted money and energy. Bad for the environment and costly to you. You could consider a hydronic heating, especially one that heats through your floor.

This will reduce the cost of heating your home, is better for the environment and is also a healthy type of heating which will not affect asthma or allergy sufferers.

Of course, putting in a new system is going to cost you money. But, if you look at the last couple of years bills on your heating, then take off the percentages lost you may see that the savings will soon outweigh the payment!

Another way of making your home a little greener and saving you money too is to compost. Composting makes the most of all our food waste and saves us money in our garden. It also helps to grow vegetables and fruit, which could also save you money! It isn’t hard to start composting, you can either buy your bin or, you could just put aside an area in the garden and start adding your waste products to it.

If you have a special container in your kitchen, you can put tea bags, kitchen paper, vegetable peelings and various other waste aside, then pop them on the compost heap. It is that simple and will reduce your waste too. This is great for the environment and an instant way of saving your dollars!

Within our homes, we can also make savings by using natural, homemade, cleaning products. This will reduce our carbon footprint even more and will ensure we aren’t contributing to the chemical products industry. Lemons, vinegar, and baking soda are all excellent cleaners to use around the home.

With the combined ability to cut through grease, scrub off dirt and reduce horrible smells! Check out this cool list of products you can make at home here.

Going green is crucial if we want to make our planet a better place. The craziest thing of all is that it is also money saving in the long term. Make changes today, and you will see the benefits sooner than you think!
