The Packaging
When the candles arrived the first thing I noted was the packaging they arrived in. Just a simple rectangular cardboard box, but it’s the old fashioned font that gives a touch of charm to the packaging. The containers the candles are in are nothing more than small clear glass jars with a black twist off lid. However, the brown label with its black old fashioned writing, against the white wax of the candle, really gives them a cute, simplistic rustic charm that I love!
The Candles
The first thing I need to mention is that these candles are very small. They are only 2 ounce candles – perfect for a smaller room such as a bathroom or small apartment kitchen. Despite their small size, they are advertised to burn for 20 or more hours, and when you open them they smell absolutely amazing! I ordered the Vacation Package which includes three scents: Hawaiian Lei, Sea Breeze and my absolute favorite, Awapuhi. Each candle is hand-poured soy wax which I love because it burns so much cleaner than paraffin. As I mentioned above, the wax is white in color, yet the label provides the perfect touch making it a candle that will work with any colored decor.
When it comes to burning these candles, I wasn’t disappointed. Knowing they are small in size, I figured they would be perfect to put in both our bathroom and our small kitchen. After burning for about 30 minutes, both rooms had the pleasant scent of the candles. The scent was mild though, and far from over-powering – although for me that is good because too much scent and I get a terrible headache! Plus, each candle is true to its scent. I did notice though that when I tried the third candle that its scent did not seem to be as strong as the others. Like any good soy wax candle, all three burned cleanly, evenly and slowly. Another thing I liked is that when I blew the candles out, there was hardly any smoke, and barely any smoky smell. As far as the claim that they will burn for 20 hours, I think the company should rephrase it to say up to 20 hours because each of mine lasted anywhere from 16.5 hours to around 19. However, that is still not bad for such a small sized candle!
In summary, these are not the worst candles I have ever had. I love their simple charm, the fact that they burn cleanly and evenly thanks to the soy wax, and their pleasant, true-to-name scent. The only drawbacks are the discrepancy in the potency of the scents when burning, and the fact that they did not burn the full 20 hours. Still, as long as you keep these in mind, and remember their small size so that you don’t expect them to scent a medium to large room, then I feel you will not be disappointed either!
