Living in an apartment, I have to be careful what I use to hang things on the wall if I want to get my security deposit back. And when I remove things from the wall, I don’t want an area of ripped off paint, either. So when Shoplet sent me a couple of reusable hooks made by GeckoTech to try, I knew I had found the answer to my hanging needs!
Duck GeckoTech Reusable Hooks
Unlike other hanging hooks, GeckoTech Reusable Hooks can be used on a wide variety of surfaces without causing any damage or leaving any residue. On top of that, they are reusable and waterproof!
Each hook has a large, flat, transparent surface backing from which the small, plastic hook protrudes. The backing is flexible, and while the front feels smooth, the back side is covered with these teeny-tiny – practically invisible – micro-suction cup thingies. These little suction cup thingies are what allows you to reuse these hooks over and over without damaging the surface it adheres to. In addition, although the back feels slightly gummy, it leaves no residue.
The GeckoTech Reusable Hooks adhere to painted surfaces that are easy to clean and can resist stains. This means they work great on glass, laminate, stainless steel, plasterboard, and other smooth, hard, non-porous surfaces. However, they are not recommended for textured or matte-finish surfaces (such as wallpaper, stucco or those bumpy painted walls. In addition, they advise not using them on any surface that is dirty, uneven, peeling or coarse.
GeckoTech Reusable Hooks are available in several different sizes, each of which have a different weight capacity. The one’s I received are will hold up to 3 lbs and 5 lbs which is perfect for what I plan on using them for in our new home! To install the hooks you simply clean the surface you want to adhere the hook to, then affix the GeckoTech to the vertical surface and use your fingers to push out any air bubbles. Wait about an hour, then you can hang whatever it is you need. To remove the hooks, you just peel from one of the corners of the backing and it pops right off!
Duck Hp260 High Performance Packing Tape
In addition to the reusable hooks, Shoplet also sent a roll of Duck HP260 High Performance Packing Tape with a built-in dispenser. This is definitely going to come in handy as we are moving at the end of this month! Having moved several times through out my life, I have used a wide variety of packing tape. Some work pretty well, while other are so weak and flimsy the barely hold the boxes closed.
Duck-brand is definitely one of the best brands I have used. This 3.1mm wide tape is perfect for taping boxes together for extra support and for keeping the lids closed. The HP260 is a “crystal clear”tape, that now features “a wide temperature range performance and is resistant to ultraviolet rays which eliminates yellowing and increases shelf life.”
In addition, the HP260 packing tape is advertised to be whisper quiet – and it is! I’m sure you have noticed that horrible screeching noise packaging tapes make when you pull a strip off of the roll? This Duck HP 260 Packaging Tape is completely squeak and screech free- one less thing to give you a headache when it comes to moving!
