6 Spring Car Care Tips

At long last the winter is over. The sun is shining and temperatures are climbing. While we are ready for the change of weather, make sure your car is too. Before you leave on that spring break road trip, do these following spring car care tips.

Spring Car Care Tips - Preparing for Spring Break Road Trips

Change the Fluids

One of the most important parts of routine maintenance is checking and changing your car’s fluids. Have your certified mechanic check and change all the fluids including the oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and even the washer fluid.

Check Your Tires

Tires are one of the most important, and one of the most neglected, parts of a car. Worn out tires are dangerous and are a major cause of accidents. They can also cost you gas mileage. Before you hit the road, have a professional inspect each tire for signs of uneven wear, low tread and low tire pressure. If it is time, have them rotated and aligned.  Make sure the spare is checked as well.

Check the Brakes

Just as important as the tires is the brakes. Have a technician check your brake pads and the rotors to make sure there are no safety issues. And remember, neglecting them is not only a safety hazard, it can also lead to a costlier repair down the line.

Change Your Wipers

With the warmer temperatures come spring showers and storms. Nothing is worse than driving down the road in the pouring rain with ineffective windshield wipers. Check both front wipers and any rear wipers. Take a good look at the blades for any signs of wear such as the rubber splitting, tearing or separating from the metal. If you see any, it is time for a new pair of wiper blades.

Remove leftover salt

The salt used on the roads to melt the snow and ice can cause serious damage to cars. Especially on the undercarriage where metal can rust. As soon as the weather changes, take your car to a car wash and make sure to use sprayers to eliminate any leftover salt.

Update Your Car Emergency Kit

The change of the season is the perfect time to check and update your car’s emergency kit.  Double check to make sure you have the basics including a small first aid kit, tools, a flashlight, bottled water, fresh snacks and a tire changing kit.
