Wireless Keyboards: 1byone Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard with Multi Touchpad Review

As touch screen devices become more popular and advanced, more and more people are moving away from desktop computers and laptops. For me, while I love the freedom my iPad and Android tablets allow me, I find that they are a lacking in some areas, specifically the lack good-sized keyboard and mouse. Thankfully, there are plenty of options available when it comes to wireless keyboards and mice, both of which can greatly increase the capabilities of your mobile devices.

Over the last couple of years, I have tried several different wireless keyboards, but it wasn’t until I tried this wireless Bluetooth keyboard by 1byOne that I found one that worked for me perfectly. 1byOne is dedicated to creating products which help people realize the power of technology and make their lives better, easier and more fulfilling. One of their most recent products is the 1byone Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard with Multi Touchpad for Windows, Linux /Android OS Tablet PC/ Galaxy Tablets and Smart Phones. Just so you know, this keyboard comes in 3 different versions: Black, Length Touchpad and Wide Touchpad, and today I am reviewing the Length Touchpad keyboard.

Features of the 1byone Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard

The 1byone Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard with Multi Touchpad has all the needed features of a regular sized QWERTY keyboard, except for a dedicated number pad (but honestly, who needs that in a mobile device?). This sleek, matte black keyboard comes complete with a good-sized multi touchpad, and is compatible with iOS /Mac OS, Android, Windows, and all bluetooth-enabled tablets, laptops, and computers.

At 6.8″ wide by 10.2″ long it is big enough to provide a comfortable user experience, yet still small enough to be the perfect size for portability. Its ultra slim design (it is only a mere 0.3″ thick) allows it to easily fit in a backpack, messenger bag, or case.

But don’t let its size fool you – its powerful, rechargeable lithium polymer battery is capable of lasting up to 90+ working hours before needing to be recharged, and it has a life of 3+ years which is pretty good for a 280 mAh internal battery. It can also work for up to 3 months in standby mode without charging. Speaking of charging, the battery charges via a provided micro-USB cable, and it takes about 4 hours for the initial charge. It does have an on/off switch, which is great for saving battery life.

Using an American Broadcom bluetooth 3.0 chip, which is 8 times faster than the Bluetooth 2.0, this keyboard has a super quick connection speed, and a signal distance of up to 33 feet. Its bluetooth connectivity is flawless, as I was able to easily connect it to my iPad, MemoPad 8 tablet, Samsung laptop and even my iPhone. It took just a few seconds to connect as all I had to do was hold the function key and the C key, search for the keyboard in the bluetooth settings on my device I was pairing with, and type in a short code. Within minutes of unwrapping the keyboard, I was connected and ready to play.

Aesthetics of the 1byone Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard

The first thing I noticed about this keyboard (aside from its size) was that it is very comfortable to use. It has a slightly raised/tilted ergonomic design for your wrist to sit upon as you type, and the textured back side allows you to pick up and grip the keyboard without it slipping.

Although it was not originally constructed with anything on the back side to prevent it from sliding around on flat surfaces, the manufacturers must have realized the issue because they included a packet of 6 rubber self-stick nubs which you can easily attach to quickly fix the problem. There are, however, four raised nubs on each corner on the front side to keep it from pressing against your books or tablet while carrying it around in a bag.

Usability of the 1byone Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard

The keyboard does offer dedicated Android and Windows hotkeys, and the icons on the function keys are easy to understand and provide a wealth of features for a portable keyboard. The key presses are soft and quiet, and the spacing between the keys is very close to that of a regular keyboard so you don’t have to worry about hitting two keys at once. Keystrokes are recorded quickly with no lag, overflow or errors in processing each individual pressing of the keys. All function commands work great on the keyboard, and I was able to adjust volume, play/pause/forward media, copy and paste with ease, and anything else you could expect from a keyboard with touchpad.

Speaking of the touchpad, this one features intuitive Windows 8 gesture support and is very responsive. It is a pretty good size when you look at the overall keyboard size, although I have seen some reviews that say it is a bit cramped. For me, it works just fine, and offers something closer to a laptop experience on my tablets.  Clicking the pad results in a registered click, and right clicking works just as well. With a simple press of the icon key, you can change between mouse mode and figure pattern. Of course, Apple iOS will not support the touchpad mouse function, and I noticed that occasionally the pointer would disappear then reappear several times in a row, but it wasn’t enough to affect usage or be annoying, it’s just slightly odd.

Durability of the 1byone Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard

When it comes to mobile devices, if you want that small, thin technology, then you are going to lose some durability. However, this does not seem to be a very big issue with this particular keyboard. While I did notice that if you prop it on your lap or other soft surface while typing, it will flex a bit, I do not believe that regular use is going to cause any issues. Excessive bending or dropping on the other hand is best to avoid. I have actually carried it around in the same bag as my laptop, which I have accidentally laid down to where the weight of the laptop was on the keyboard, and have not had any issues. Even the keys seem quite durable, which I tested using some pretty hard pressure.

Overall, if you are looking for a great portable, Bluetooth capable, wireless keyboard with optional touchpad, then I definitely recommend giving this one a try! 1byone has produced a quality product at an affordable price that not only looks nice, but works great too!
