For many people, moving into an apartment can be a shock to the system if they have been used to the space of a larger property, such as a house. Fear not, however, as there are ways in which you can maximize the space and make the most of your apartment space.
Here are four top tips to help you do just that.
Declutter
First, the most important tip to follow when you are trying to make the most of your apartment space is to declutter. Having too many items lying around the place can make a property feel much smaller. In fact, people have been known to move into a new property, gather more items and feel as though they, once again, do not have enough space in which to live comfortably
Look at all possessions and consider if they serve a purpose within your home or they make you happy. If you forgot you even owned it or it has not been used in the last year or two, the chances are you can get rid.
Choose the right furniture
Furniture is another important part of trying to make the most of your apartment space. When it comes to furniture, transferring the same items from a house into an apartment often does not work. The space is different and therefore your layout cannot replicate what it used to look like.
For example, a sofa. Your large sofa may not fit into the smaller space. However, as sectional for small spaces would be perfect as you can arrange it how you like to fit in with everything else. If you are keen to have a dining area, you may wish to consider an expandable table or one where the seating can be stored neatly underneath. That way, you are not tripping over the set all the time.
If you are in a studio apartment, consider a pull-out bed to maximize space, particularly if you invite guests over on a regular basis. Additionally, if considering shelving units to try to split the rooms, creating divisions, try to choose ones that are slightly open, allowing the light to flow through. Again, this gives the appearance of more space than you actually have.
Organize things appropriately
Choosing the right furniture can only have the desired effect on the space within your apartment if you actually organize things appropriately. When looking to make the most of your apartment space, place items of furniture against the walls, to maximize the amount of floor space you have remaining.
Furthermore, try creating specific areas. So, even if you have a studio apartment, ensure that there is a clear distinction between what is your sleeping area and what is your living space, with your sofa and TV, for instance.
Use mirrors
While the use of mirrors will not actually create any extra space, they will help to make the area look more spacious and less cramped, wider, and taller than before. Of course, you must opt for substantial sized mirrors to have the impact you desire, though try to avoid going OTT.
