Mavea Elemaris XL Water Pitcher Review

You could not pay me to drink the water that comes from our faucet.  It’s not that it is dirty or unsafe to drink, but the slight chlorine smell and taste are utter turn-offs!  So we have been spending, or maybe I should say wasting, a lot of money buying bottled water.

My husband drinks 4 to 5 bottles a day, my son 2 or 3, and close to 3 or 4 myself, daily.  That is a lot of wasted plastic bottles and just too much money to spend on water that more than likely is coming from another city’s municipal water works.

Why not buy a water filter for your faucet or a pitcher that filters water, you ask. We have, and were not very impressed, especially with how quickly the filters would run out. Plus, it was hard to guess when to change the filter.  Recently, while surfing the internet, I came across Mavea, and found a pitcher I love!

Mavea makes water filtering products for both homes and businesses. Their filters utilize both activated carbon and ion exchange resin to filter out many impurities leaving your water clean and delicious!  Their BPA-free pitchers have a sleek design and use technology to ensure you get the cleanest water possible.

I received an Elemaris XL (aff. link) water filtering pitcher to review, and absolutely love it!  This modern-looking pitcher has a 3.5 liter capacity (9 cups), a convenient pour-through lid, a comfortable handle, a non-slip base and comes with their intelligent Mavea Meter.

What is a Mavea Meter? It is a digital meter that actually monitors the filtration performance and lets you know how much life is left in the filter before it is time to change it. It uses a 3 way measurement system which takes into consideration the volume of water filtered, the hardness of your water and time.

Based on your consumption of and the quality of your water, you will get a signal when it is time to replace the filter.  How cool is that!

THE METER:  THEY START AT 100%. WE HAVE USED 25% SO FAR.

The lid has a convenient automatic pour-through feature where you can just stick it under the faucet to refill without removing the entire top.  It has this slot on top that the water will flow through, and once the filter gets to a certain volume, the flap on the lid will close on it’s own so you know that the filter is full.   Of course, if you prefer to just remove the lid, you can!

HERE YOU CAN SEE THE POUR-THROUGH LID SLOT AND THE MAVEA METER

Set up was extremely easy, I just washed the individual parts, followed the directions on prepping the filter, filled it up, and stuck it in the refrigerator.  It only took about a minute to a minute and a half for the water to filter through into the pitcher, which is a lot faster than others I have tried.  The taste is amazing!  No longer does our water taste and smell like chlorine and other chemicals, instead it is crisp, cool and delicious!

The Elemaris is available in both a regular size (2.4 liter/ 5 glass) and the XL (3.5/9 glass), both of which come with the same features.

The regular Elemaris is available in black or white, while the Elemaris XL is available in Black, White, Sage Green, Eggplant and Ruby Red.

Mine is Eggplant, my favorite color!!  Prices range from around $33 to $40 depending on where you purchase it.

Refill filters (which are recyclable)will also vary in price from $15 to $30, again depending on where you buy and also in what quantity you purchase them. I will tell you this, we have been using it daily for about a month now and have 75% of the filter life left; had we continued buying cases of bottled water, we would have already spent the same amount as the pitcher costs at this point.

By the end of this month, we will be saving money!
